I need a vehicle to put it on for testing.
Anyone local want to try it out?

Man Chris,

That looks fantastic! Any idea of what they will cost?

PS: My 4YO like to watch you crash. He likes the videos where you overtake other cars, but mostly he like the crashing.

if you feel like sending it out to socal, i'll gladly give it a test run chris..haha i gaurantee it will be put through its paces, and i'll even pay shipping. biggrin.gif

Chris,

Will that fit under a stock 73 valance?
Robert21
Will wait to see how loud it is . Looks cool. Robert21

Chris,

Will that fit under a stock 73 valance?

Now why would you want to hide all of that stainless steel?
r_towle
I would be up for one except I have 1.7 liter HE's

If you get around to building one for the 1.7 HE's let me know..I dont want it quiet smile.gif
I do want it up high and tight with nothing showing below the short valance.

If done correctly, all that will be obvious is the two outlet tips.
A cutout in the valence will be necessary to provide clearance for the tips.
Or if you want to show off the muffler delete the rear valence. smile.gif

Rich, its easy to remove sound deadening features and turn up the volume. biggrin.gif

If you made them, please install a bung for an O2 sensor...

And make them for the 1.7-1.8 exhausts too.

Damn that looks good.

Any power advantage over running a Bursch?

I believe so, but I'm not spending money on dyno results to prove it anytime in the near future.
KaptKaos
That would be doubly awesome with a single tip, like the Sebring's on the 356s! smilie_pokal.gif

Nice work.
Harpo
That is sweet Chris. Any idea when they will be available?

I have a nice clean 75 with low miles I can test on for you if you work one up for a 1.8/2.0L in the future. Not to far away in NC

I wasn't planning on developing one for the late HE's, but it could be done.

We can do that, no problem. smile.gif

6-8 weeks from date of payment received. biggrin.gif
The prototype will be available sooner - right after I do a quick install for fitment and sound verification.
monkeyboy
What is your target price?
maf914
That looks good Chris. I hope it works and you sell a bunch, so that there is an alternate muffler available to the 914 group.

Looks sort of like my stainless steel muffler from MittleMotor in Germany. Well, maybe not. But, sort of.

The MittleMotor muffler is a straight tube with a single end outlet in the stock location. Good quality. Fairly heavy.

Fairly heavy.

My prototype weighs 24.5 lbs.
I guarantee that internally it's not at all like the Mittelmotor muffler. smile.gif

Chris, Could you elaborate on this? What does the inside of a Mittlemotor muffler look like? Similar to the stock Porsche bannana style mufflers? idea.gif

I am curious, but I don't think I will cut mine open any time soon. laugh.gif

Ooooo chowtime.gif

I wasn't planning on replacing the bursch extractor on my '70 (yes it has 2.0 HE's), but that is sweet!

Build one for a six? Adjustable sound would be great for my track teener.

We can do just about anything for the right amount of $$$. smile.gif
If you don't have tight sound restrictions like at Laguna Seca, swapping in a pair of Stage I silencers is the best way to make your car louder for the track.
Although my EVO mufflers flow really well and I doubt you would see a meaningfull power increase from the change.

I have no idea of the internal details but I am certain mine is different.
As far as I know, no one else has ever applied the techniques I use.
I can tell that just by looking at the exterior.

Are we going to get a video clip with audio when you have it perfected? smile.gif smile.gif

I won't set the price until testing is completed but it will be consistent with similar mufflers we already make.

I was just watching my 2009 Scare under the Bridge video last night, and I felt a little increase in heart rate as the car drifted off the edge of the track.
The averted disaster isn't quite as obvious in the video as I remember it.
The 2009 crash still hurts when I watch it. icon8.gif
I'm glad it provides good entertainment value though. smile.gif

So I am guessing this has all the merged piping on the inside. What size are the tail pipes?
ChrisFoley
QUOTE(vw505 @ Mar 29 2013, 01:21 PM) *

No it does not have any merged piping. I'm going for the shortest primaries possible, and no interaction between them.
This moves the torque band up and helps prevent dips in the curve.
By spinning the gasses around the inside perimeter of the canister I'm minimizing turbulence which decreases flow.
The baffles I designed are very free flowing, yet reflect sound waves back to the sound absorbing media at the ends of the muffler.

The outlets are 2" ID, 2 1/2" OD.

I'm on the same coast as you and I've got a fairly stock 2.0 with SS HEs. EMPI carbs. Not very racey but i'm happy to be your guinea pig if nobody closer offers. smile.gif

Bought it with a Monza/Manta exhaust, I'm just waiting for it to rust out to replace it.

Forgive a newbie question, is the HE system for 2.0 different from the earlier units ?
I have 76 2 liter that presently has the short headers and a Monza system with no heat exchangers, so want to revert to having heat. Do i need to get the heat exchangers with the 3 bolt flange and no direct bolting to the head exhaust ports ?
Help me out here unsure.gif

Send it to me Chris and I will install it on Betsy and drive it to Hershey, that's a good 1000 mile road test for you. I am running stainlees HE and dual Webers. Currently running a quad tip and I need to get rid of it. Hell, I may even pay the shipping.

I didn't have time to look for a valence I could modify.

I was surprised. It sounds a lot like one of my EVO II Silencers connected to a Tangerine header.
But I think its a little quieter, and I can build it to be louder or more quiet without altering the performance. smile.gif
I haven't figured out a way to make the loudness adjustable yet.

Looks good, I like the twin center exit pipes. I built something similar but without the "end tanks", could you elaborate on their purpose? Seems like excess weight hanging off of the extreme end of the car though certainly an improvement over the original dansk I am sure.

Large tips like that are popular on many cars today, even on non-sporty cars with tailpipe sizes of only 1 1/4".
They become a styling element of the vehicle, rather than just a way to get rid of exhaust gasses.
I may shorten them an inch or more so that they blend into the valence a little better.

We started forming these in-house recently but so far haven't attempted to trim the ends on an angle so they conform with the angle of the valence.
That's next.
We can easily do a single center tip instead if that's what the customer wants.

Any idea when one will be for sale?
r_towle
If you are selling these soon, bring one to Hershey smile.gif

Put me on the list for the 1.7 HE's and a single large (oval) tailpipe.

I would love to hear it at Hershey....just sayin...

The next one I build will be for 1.7 SSIs.
But it probably won't be done in time for Hershey.
Maybe I'll pull the one off my car and bring it so we can mount it on someone else's car for a quick test.

As soon as I've completed sound level testing of a couple ideas I'll be ready to sell them.

I'm real happy with the one I installed on my car. I don't feel any loss of performance compared to the EVO Stock header I removed. (d-jet 1911)
However I would like it to be slightly quieter inside the car at some rpm. It has a mild resonance between 2500-3000 rpm. I have something to try for this.

I don't think its that loud outside the car but I haven't had someone else drive it to hear for myself. driving.gif
I also want to build one that is a bunch quieter for those who want it that way - hopefuly without a noticeable performance change.

I'll weigh mine when I get home and compare them with my Fuchs. They are definitely heavier than the Fuchs.

You can google 'VTO 914world.com' or 'VTO pelicanparts.com'

For a really accurate weight take one rim to the nearest USPS office and use the self-service scale in the lobby.

Update bump Please

I would love something like that, that will bolt up to my Euro-Headers. wub.gif

Bringing this back up because we're building mufflers right now.
Here are pics of the first production unit completed.
It weighs 17 lbs.
The second one will be with a single tip at the stock left corner location.
