well heres my ebay purchase---for having spent 40 years in new york she is actual quite good. all is stock and un-fiddled with, etc. but heres what I found rust wise in the longs its actually very focused around the jack points and doesnt extend. suspension console also looks solid.
should I buy long panels? kit? Id like to do a good job yet not strip the car to its bone, it is a solid driver...

After paint that's a $10K+ job if you hire it out...I've seen that before
You will find more than that...trust me.

Wait, those look like pictures of my 1972 rust-free Texas car that was sold to me by a fellow PCA member who couldn't quite get things off of it for me to see everything but assured me it was OK. No wait, mine is red. Welcome fellow traveller!

that jack support plate is not original and has been replaced
(they are always the first to go)
I guess you knew what you were getting into
thats an expensive repair if you pay someone and if you do it yourself you had better be in for the long haul.
there is more
that hell hole does not look encouraging
ouch

Noticed the jack point right away. Looks way too fresh compared to the surrounding area.
I would also look carefully at the rear suspension ears to make sure they are safe to drive on.
As stated, $10k is not unreasonable if you farm all the work out. The work can be done for a fraction of the cost if you do it yourself, but you'll need the tools/skills and lots of time. Not trying to talk you out of the work. If you don't already know how to do the repairs, you can learn, but it's a big commitment. The great people on this site will help you succeed with a wealth of info if you choose to go that route.
Check this link for a worst case scenario and great insight on how to approach rust repairs for just about every spot on these cars.

How is that not a very rusted car? The passenger long, hell hole, engine shelf and rear trunk all need major work. The suspension console usually rusts out from the inside and until you strip the floor tar, you won't see the rust in the floor channels. Pull the bumpers and interior to really see what you got. Also check the reinforcement plate in back of the master cylinder. It's a common place for rust to hide.
Bill is right, $10K + in repair. BTDT but best of luck to save this teener.

on the repaired jack point yes its a bad repair where they bolted a pyramid into a rust hole riddent long and tried to paint. the seller said "its totally solid, no holes at all" "trunk perfect" his ebay ID is "porsche-doctor"

I hope you are kidding on both counts. Did you see the pictures before you bought it?
I would have to go to court on this one if that is what you were told. I would have this on every porsche forum in existence and then some.

OMG!
Seriously. That's a big project. The only way is engine out, fix it right or you will end up with a bigger problem in the future. I hope your kidding about the $ 7500.00 unless the rest of the car (interior, glass, seals, etc.) is perfect.

Judging by his EBay feedback list, either you paid about the right price for a rusty roller (shows one sold to a dissatisfied buyer for $1400 in June of 2011) OR, you didn't check out his feedback very well before you bought the car, or you would've seen he did this to somebody else!

you should fight this one with ebay or paypal.
That is just wrong!! Fight it. For $7500.00 you could have my car and I will post pics of those areas and you can see little to no rust!

These 2 pictures in the ebay ad would have stopped me from buying this car. Plus I would never buy an East Coast car unless i knew the car.
I'm very sorry for you. I do believe the seller misrepresented the car.

so, strangely enough the seller has a 100% positive rating and it doesn't list the one bad rating in the totals.
I wonder why that is.
Sorry about your troubles and I hope you bring this one back to its rightful glory!!
