I find it to be interesting that the 17mm 914-4 master cylinder was not painted from ATE and the 914-6/911 19mm came painted. I guess VW/Porsche saved money by not painting them due to the volume need for the assembly line?

I don't know except to say why not save money? They went from shiny ID badges in the back trunk to black plastic to decals as the years went on. And I'll bet it wasn't to save weight!

I, persoanlly like the raw metal approach, though I was forced to go with the 19mm version.
