Has the fan design changed over the years? The reason I ask is that my fan does not have a flat surface in the center to mount my Clewett trigger wheel

The only difference I know of is what you just expressed. Flat face vs conical face. My assumption would be '75 - '76 would have the flat face to mount the smog pump drive.

I thought the trigger wheel would go behind the impeller like the A/C drive pulley.

The middle nub is missing from your fan just so you know. smile.gif

I think the early fan is 72 and before. My 72 has the old style. VW buses had a smog pump there since 73.

Jake was saying the newer fan cools better probably on account of there being more volume in there for air to get pulled in.

I think Slits has a point - if you block the fan with anything it won't cool as well. Jake was saying just the plastic mesh they put over it on a bus raises cht by 10 degrees.

Here is the trigger wheel. It should not interfere with air flow too much. I guess that I will be posting my new fan in the classifieds

Interesting setup for a trigger wheel, I had not seen that one before

I think i like McMarks behind the fan setup better though

Simpler, cheaper, hidden, and should work with any fan.
