'73 or later:
a ) you need to get the additional (optional) wiper relay wire harness
i only have a very bad, low res photo of the add-on harness (fig. 2).
i supposed i could take mine out again and take a better pic,
but for now this has to be enough.
the harness includes a Relay-Socket (fig. 1) with 5 female connectors,
one in the center, 4 around.
the 5 wires are color coded as follows, thickness stated in brackets:
brown/black (0.5)
blue/black (1.5)
red (1.5)
green/white (1.5)
brown (0.5)
the original manual refers to the wiper relay as #91 (see fig. 3 and fig. 5)
b ) you need to locate the control wire for the relay
the relay control wire is a brown/black wire that comes from your steering column (far left connector, first wire, see fig. 6)
and goes in the main harness towards the wiper motor. the wire should end somewhere around the first
support bracket (drivers side, see fig. 1) or near the wiper motor itself.
c ) find the original 4 wires on the wiper motor (fig. 8)
the original wiper motor wires are color coded as follows, thickness stated in brackets:
red/black (1.5)
green/white (1.0)
black/blue (1.0)
black/purple (1.0)
d ) put the relay wires in line with the original motor wires (fig. 7)
1) remove the original red/black wired. attach the relay red wire (it has a double connector) then put the red/black back on the second pin.
2) remove the original green/white wire and attach it to the relay blue/black wire (male connector)
3) take the relay green/white wire and attach it to the previous original green/white connector on the wiper motor
4) attach the original brown/black wire to the only empty connetor in the relay socket
5) attach the relay brown wire (ground) to a ground of your choice (i used the wiper motor ground)
e ) insert the relay
get the correct relay, part# 477 955 531 a (see relay pic)
f ) now every time you use your windshield washer, the wipers will run for a while, have fun ...
g ) run it with electric pump
if you have a electric washer pump, you can use the original control wire (brown/black) to also power your pump. simply splice the wire and run it to the pump.
