piece of roll bar trim fell off and is lost. three pieces of new trim on its way. it will be chrome. I want to make it black as before. Suggestions as to how? Simply spray paint it. Some kind of prep to make it less prone to chip? Acid? Sanding?

Have to sand the crome or the paint will have nothing to stick to.

Use some Easy Off oven cleaner, it will eat the anodizing of the metal. Rinse and prep for paint.

Read a thread from paintedman where scottyB recommended "SEM" trim paint. Made specially to paint trim. Think Napa sells it.

It's anodized in the first place so you could strip and straighten, then anodize in black.
