I just thought I would give everyone an update on the progress on my car. I never started a thread from the start, and now that it is almost on the road (for sure this summer) I want to give a few shout outs to the many people that have helped along the way.

A little about the car...

-1973, originally white, now Subaru racing blue
-has a wiring harness from a 72' 1.7L
-suspension and brakes from a /6, rebuild kits provided by PMB
-7 & 8 fuchs
-tangerine exhaust, shift linkage, carb sync kit
-LED gauges from Al Garcia (RIP)
- Aluminum peddle boards and fuse panel from Engman (RIP)
-Rebuilt 2056cc engine with 36 delortos. (might need to upgrade we will see)
-993 aero mirrors
-lots of rubber from 914rubber
-wevo transmission mounts
-PILOT fog lights

Thanks to all the support that a lot of you unknowingly supplied. I have been a lurker most of the time that I have been working on this car, but all of the past problems that many have encountered have been experienced by me too.

I'm most definitely forgetting things, but here is a little video of the car in its current state. I'm down to the wire and in a race to finish my car ahead of my dad who is working on getting his 57 speedster on the road this summer. I also need to get this car dialed in for August 31st which is my wedding day. Its going to be our getaway mobile!

The Car and the Video are both outstanding. Can't wait for you to drive it, you got to be proud. By the way you got it done in the nick of time cause once you're married you won't have time.

Thanks for all the props guys. It was truly a labour of love. There was times where I took off months at a time, but I never lost interest. Seeing many threads on here really motivated me to complete this. Although I'm still not totally done. I doubt I ever will be.

Ya, good thing I will be done by the wedding, because not only will I have no more time, but I wont be able to drop cash into it without even thinking twice about it anymore.

I dont think I will be bringing the car to the tranny clinic. I got like 5 transmissions that I think Im going to bring.

I will update in the future with another video. Some footage on the road and probably the speedster my Dad is working on.

Nice!

If you bring it to Milton one Sunday this summer, please don't park it next to mine. biggrin.gif

If you're real careful I bet 5 tranny's would fit a 914, you'd be amazed how much stuff a 914 will hold.

Ya I guess I could fit a few, but then I'd have to be extra careful in not scratching paint, and wrapping them all up. Unless someone wants to bring them all there for me.

Nice build, hoping mine comes out as good.

Did some work on my car last night.

Im trying to get the interior all installed. I have the speedy auto glass coming to install front and rear glass on saturday and then I will install the rebuilt transmission that I will be completing this weekend at the transmission clinic. I think that my input shaft seal is leaking. So the engine and tranny will come out again, and at that point I will also install sound deadening in the engine bay I got from Mikey914.

Here is the sound deadening in the interior. This stuff was left over from a job we did at work. There was another shop that made the trim die for the 2013 passat trunk interior panel. Now we have a huge roll of this stuff and I dont know what to do with it all.

I started by spraying the whole interior firewall with a spray adhesive from wurth. I only sprayed the bottom portion of the sound deadening so it was easier to put in place. Then I worked my way up until it was all in place and then trimmed to fit. I konw its not the best trim job, but the backpad will cover it still.

I have made some good progress since I last updated this thread. I never intended to do a build thread because I knew it was going to take a long while, but now I am nearing the end, so here are a bunch of photos of the finished product.

Here is the car right after the windshield install

Really a nice car. Great job with the build.

Your attention to detail is fantastic. Nice to see a four cylinder car with flares and 5 lug Fuchs. Just curious why you decided not to convert it to a Six? Love the color and overall look!

OK, I drove the 914 to work today! So here are some more photos of the mirrors and the whole car.

BTW, thanks for all the compliments. I went the 4 cylinder route because this was my first 914 I built. I was a novice for sure and I didn't want to take on too much that I couldn't handle. Not to say that I am an expert now, far from it, but I think a 6 will be in its future. I have a 2L, 2.2L and a 2.7L here at the shop just waiting to be refreshed.

Hey everyone,

I just got married on Aug 31 and was on my honeymoon till the 15th. We had a great photographer and I'm pretty happy with the results.

I started working on my 914 the same year that my wife and I had met, so I think it was very fitting that we use my car as the getaway. At times I didnt think that I would have it ready for the wedding, but I pulled it off with lots of help from family and friends, not to mention loads of help from the 914world.

The wedding was in my wifes hometown, Thunder Bay Ontario 18 hours in away from where we live now. So my dad trailered my car and his speedster, which he had just finished too after an 8 year restoration all the way there.

The wedding pics are so cool. You are Lucky man with a beautiful wife and great dad working by your side. All the best!

Congratulations for many years to come. Wonderful pictures.

I had my teener as the getaway car at my wedding as well.

She knows what she is getting into......with the car....ya know the addiction thing.

Glad to see the speedster also got done in time for the big day. Wasn't there a wager between you and your dad as to which car would be done first ??? happy11.gif

And where did the slicks go ??

Love the " NO COPY " plates..
