1971 D-jet. Has left me stranded a few times - turn key and don't hear the pump operating. Car does tend to sit for long periods of time in-between drives. Pump tends to "lock-up" during slow speed/coasting to stop/at stop (not every time, but when it does stop, it's at low load). Have tried replacing fuses per threads here. If I tap on the exterior of the pump with a hammer - it will resume operating fine ... until it quits again. What's the prognosis?

What are my options? Remove and send out for re-build? I undestand that OEM replacement pumps are expensive. What's an alternate set-up?
