My engine is at the loading dock of the shipper and they don't have a fork lift on the ground to lower the engine to my trailer. They have a fork lift up on the dock but that's it

Any Ideas?

I was thinking about renting a Uhaul truck and using its ramp to help but am not sure. Has anyone used the Lowes trucks before?

If I could get some straps they think the fork lift could lower the engine (on a pallet) down. Where do I buy straps strong enough for the weight.

What shipper? Air Freight brought the fork-lift right out into the parking lot to load me up last year.

2 really big guys could move it,

if you take it out of the crate, then even 2 puny guys like me could move it.

The dock is like 44" tall. The moving guys (crew) will need to lift it from 44" down to about 12"

I have only move a type 4 engine and didn't lift it much above my waist.

Tie down straps are very cheap ($12/pair) and VERY strong (one will easily hold your engine). Use two for balance though!

Any motorcycle or car parts shop will have them. As will UHaul, etc.

Strap the engine to the bottom of the forks and raise it, then lower the engine over the side of the dock.

get straps. hang the engine from the forks. lower the forks.... easy.

Two guys should be able to pick up a 911 engine on a palet to waste high at least. Done it a million, gazillion times. Tell that shipping Co. to get a decent forklift!

Thanks..Not to sound stupid but................will simple tie down straps will work? Is there a weight to rating I should look for on the straps? The only ones I ever bought were a 1" wide and didn't seem strong enough to hold a engine.

I'll head to lowes and get a good set. Should I connect the straps to the pallet (at each corner) or the engine? If I should attach to the engine, where is a safe connection point.

i use the 3" wide straps...

Run the straps through the pallet (x2) and connect the hooks to each other between the forks with the forks raised high (not all of the way up). Then raise the engine/pallet off the ground, hang it over the side of the dock and lower. It should be straight forward when you get started. The 1" ones will work. The engine should not be over 500lbs, right. Plus, you can use a few of them if you need to.

3" straps it will be. Lets just hope the engine looks as good or better then the photos.

You would be amazed at how strong a 1" nylon strap is. 3" straps could pick up the whole car. Ya'll beat me to the punch with using a strap or rope to lower from the fork lift

If they have a neighbour with a truck that has a tailgate lift you might be able to throw $20.00 or a case of beer at them and lower that motor properly. Just push the pallet into the back of the truck and then lower it to the ground using the tailgate.

Don't waste your money buying 3" straps (they must be for locomotives?) - you will never use them again. Buy the 1" straps and you will. If they have them with ratchets get those since they are more convenient for future use but you will not need a ratchet today.

It's a freakin shipping co. There should be a couple of guys there to help you pick it up (using those appendages sticking out of your upper torso) and set it on your trailer.

How do those guys at the loading dock get down to go home at night? That's insane. I can't believe that they can't drive that fork lift down to ground level and put the engine in your truck. What have they done with pick-up truck pick-ups in the past? And they are leaving it up to you to figure out, when they are rakin' you for the cost of the shipping, or someone anyway.

Two one inch straps lifted my tool box with a fork lift out of my truck bed, it weighs 375 dry, plus it was full of tools.

The straps worked well and I now have a 911 engine in my garage

It's alittle dirty but should be a solid motor.

Now I just need a engine stand.
