Let the batt. charge most of the morning. put in some new gas, some squirts of starter fluid and she fired off. Not running the best yet though. I figure it has a plugged injector or two. But it is running smilie_pokal.gif The engine code is M28 20 That makes it the US version 234 HP I can live with that smile.gif Im going to get it running better then pull it out. I will be selling the old 1.7 with the intakes you racer guys got excited over. just need to figure out to sell compleete or parts.

We knew it ran, I fired it up and it ran for about a minute before it ran out of gas. And while you were there it fired but shut right off. Then we couldnt get it to start again. Sounds healthy, dont it?

Congrats on the engine!

A couple of years ago Pano ran an article about putting a 928 engine into a 914 . . . have you seen that? If not, I'll see if I still have that on the shelf.

Best,

If its the same pano magazine I have they moved the whole drivetrain wheels in all back about 6" so they didn't have to mess with the firewall.
What a mess and it looks kinda wierd with the wheels pushed back into the trunk.

I like what Alien did.
That looks like the cleanest way of installing the 928 engine.
If you want the pano article email me and I will email it to you.
I already scanned it for someone else.
Steve
Here's a pic I found.

I hope I get to see that thing run when you get it finished.
What is the weigh difference between a Type IV and the 8?
Have you figured out what your new overall weight will be?
Steve
I'll go ahead and post the article.

When I put the gas in it sounded like it was going into a big empty cave. Probably what you put in out there was just enough to fire off but not keep the pickup covered. It does sound good cant wate to hear it hitting on all 8 consistantly. I like your exhaust set up I think Ill try something along that line with a flowmaster.

for some reason I think the 914 looks better with the rear wheels moved back clap56.gif

Nope. It lived a good life now it must give up its heart so the teener will live. So to say... cool_shades.gif And it will live on in other 928s around the country when I sell off the parts biggrin.gif I may drive it around the block just once though driving.gif
Maltese Falcon
That be Don Kravig's 914-8 . We saw it at Monterey in the 90's for either a PCA event or a historic weekend event. It was there along with Beach Boys racing 914 dealio roadster. I have some old pix of Don at Ontario Motor Speedway in his 911 lightweight. He was running up on 3 wheels in the parking lot slalom laugh.gif One day I'll get this scanner to talk to this PC... headbang.gif

I also like the look of the extended wheel base especially for a track car. I would think that car is still around somewhere unless it got wrecked.

reminds me of an Ultima with the wheels way back there....time to break out the welding machine smile.gif

I have a copy of that article someone emailed to me. I've never considered that car a 914/ 928 conversion. It doesn't retain enough of the true 914 function and look. With the streched wheel base I think it looks like a tow truck without the boom. barf.gif I think they were after a 917 like feel.

Don't do it! Having owned a 928 for 13 years I can say you might get hooked on the "supersonic Vault"
Nothing like 140MPH stereo playing and can still hear it. A/C cranked as you watch everything go by in a blur ahile wrapped in a real solid cocoon.
Damn safe cars.

HEY WHAT YOU NEED IS THE EURO INTAKE FOR THAT BEAST. I got the Euro S spiders intake center section all the CIS injectors and cold start injector. I know there is some kind of bushing you can adapt for for Ford injectors.
Plus there is no hole bored in the center section for the EGR.
jim912928
Joe forgot one additional feature...when you are at 140mph, listening to music clearly with the air blowing cold...you also have the sunroof open with no wind coming in!

Jim

p.s. weissach rear suspension is awsome!

how funny, I thought you'd be the last person to not like it...I like your method, but I don't diss this one too much.... smash.gif

Yea Jim I didn't have a sun roof. But they are cool. I was just spying a red 89 GT for 11,900 . drooley.gif
DAmn I got to stop I'm gettng all misty eyed. I miss my buddy some times.
Like Friday morning blowing down I-10 about 80 when this red car came up behind be riding my ass. Nailed it and got to 120 and that was about it. Obviously I couldn't drop him. 90 MPH Drop the hammer on the 928 and there aren't to many cars that can hang with that acceleration. Given the 901 gearing I am sure the Alien would be hard pressed to keep up.
jim912928
Joe...89 GT for 11,900?...Snatch that baby up...that is a good deal!

agree.gif
But it probably corners better with the longer wheel base.
It does look like a tow truck without the boom.

I know! Why hasn't anyone put one in a 914 yet? If I bought a junker 928 to do a v8 conversion with, I'd be doing the rear suspension at the same time. 914 rear suspension is junk. We should be doing boxter, 993, or 928 rear suspension conversions to go with these great engine conversions.

-Ben M.

ps - I don't care if it means loosing part of the trunk. It would be worth it.
Joe Ricard
928 rear suspension is ONE BIG HUNK of aluminum. actually 3 big chunks. The rear cross member supports the transaxle and provides one pivot point for the lower control arm spindle. Then there is the whole pivoting linkage where to mount it thing.

To pull the 928 tranaxle you have to drop the rear suspenion. Quite an impressive piece and pretty heavy to. Transaxle weight 150 lbs

Yes with help and advice from Rick, and going to use the 928 for donor parts. Ill do a thread on it once the build gets started.
