Where is the best place to weld the bung .

In the U-bend before the muffler. With the wires pointed up if possible. Check clearance on the car before welding.

Here is mine off a 1.7L. The sensor just clears the heat shield.
That is exactly how mine is mounted. Works great.
Mine is in that location to works great.
