I was looking though my boxes of parts and found 4 CV's a friend gave me. Three are good and one was assembled wrong.
Small space to small space...etc.

I've found videos and text versions of assembly and they say what not to do but not how to undo it.

CV's look like new. I would like to use them.


Anyone managed to fix this? Help.

Pop out inner & rotate to next index position
Reassemble
Find you are STILL wrong....
WTF?

A correctly assembled CV on the first try is like a unicorn....

That's the problem. One CV out of four is wrong and I cant get it apart. I cant get the inner to move. Its stuck in the 'neutral' position. Flat.

There is no secret. Just "flip" the inner race until a ball falls out.

Have you tried slipping it on a half shaft to give you some leverage on the inner race?

I don't believe they go together wrong. Probably just tight with no lube.

fiddle with it long enough and it will come apart. you need to move the cage along with the inner race . the cage needs to be at an angle half way between the inner and outer hubs to assemble or dissasemble them. its not hard once you get the hang of it.

Sure they do.
I took two spares off the shelf.
With one I "flipped" the inner race out, and moved it to the next set of slots.
They are harder to get together wrong, but you can do it.

Left one is right, right one is wrong. ( I should have thought that out ....:-)



When they are right, you have small end on inner with large end of outer.

Wrong is: small with small, large with large.

Learnt something new...

I've always done small to large and didn't think you even could get them together the wrong way.

Probably doesn't need to be said, but the innermost piece is tapered and only goes on the shaft one way, so plan accordingly when assembling the CV.

This is true, hard to tell, but true. The cir clip won't engage if the inside is bassakwards.
