Had this car for many years...like 20. Never drove it. But it's finally back on the road. piratenanner.gif

It's a 73 body, 75 2.0L supercharged 4cylinder engine.

Here are a few pics.

I want this!

Does the SC2.0 make good power?

Cool! Got any pics of the belt section and how it attaches?

Smart install. thumb3d.gif But it's screaming for a nice fuel injection setup, IMHO. happy11.gif

Hi Thomas,

Have not had it on a Dyno but it's a blast to drive!

Looks like you may have a flared out white 914 also?

Just enjoying the heck out of the car. It's been a long time coming.

I have a bunch of pics during the build of the car (not going to say restoration).

It's a bit of a Frankenstein, but from what I have gathered, it was first built by a speedshop in Fla owned by Jay Richardson back in the 80's. There was an article written up on the supercharged engine years back. A few guys on the forum have heard of him.
Although I never met him, I kind of have been putting the car back together as he may have done back in the day... smile.gif

The car may have some track history...when I bought the car there was no interior except a red Recaro Racing Seat. The car was also equip with an ATL fuel cell.

Interestingly there are a lot of 914/6 parts on the car...is front and rear brakes, ignition switch in dash, 914/6 suspension and some other weird tidbits...

I plan to post the complete story behind the car when I have some time to type it up.

I remember the article, it was in European Car.

Yes...
I lost the article when my computer crashed...
One of the guru's in the forum posted it here once before...
It's in the garage articles somewhere...

I did a SC 2.0 with FI once. Not quite as nice as this maybe. But it did scream. Always had cooling problems though. Thanks to a faulty temp and boost gauge it melted down. But it went down screaming!

Nice work.

So far engine temps have not been an issue.
Installed cyl head temp and oil temp gauges to monitor.

excellent !! biggrin.gif

I remember the story about it in VW and Porsche...I have the issue somewhere but I know somebody will probably post it....I would love to see that go back into production...I almost nearly bought that part many years ago.

Looks great.

I have a good full scan of the article I will post when I get back to my computer.

I also have one of Jay's old cars that i am bringing back to life. The SC'ed motor from mine is long gone, tho. I so wanted to build one of these with his dual plug Datsun 720 distributor, but decided to go with a 2258 from fat instead

Nice! looks like a blast

Here is the scan of the article.

I also have pics somewhere of his dual plug setup. I think it's either a modified Datsun 720 distributor with an 009 drive gear, or a modified 009 with some kind of adapter that allows you to use the 720 cap and rotor. IIRC, he sold the complete kit with machined heads, wires, etc.. for ~$800.

Pretty cool stuff. Old school cool.

Somewhat unrelated, but I found this in my fresh air blower when I took my car apart shades.gif

Thanks for posting the article again Sherman...

The motor has the twin plug setup, but I have it running on 4 plugs...

If you can find it, could you post the pics of the dizzy and twin plug setup. I may want to test that out.

Knew it was out of a Datsun...a pick-up truck or something...

Need to find the distributor, and cap etc...right now it's running on a single coil and a Petronics ignition...

Larry , nice historical save on the sc 914 !
I noticed the photo layout in the "Vw + Porsche" article was shot by my friend Les Bidrawn.
His style with my cars is usually blending industrial buildings, graffitti walls and loading docks for the backgrounds. Nice layout as well on the yellow 914. Get that engine running efi, intercooled or at least water / alcohol injected biggrin.gif

We appreciate you sharing your car with us and the detailed pictures also.

At least to me, the fact that it was documented and had a feature article in a magazine adds tremendous value to the car (more emotional or spirit that actual money unfortunately)

Good luck with the sale and hope it goes to a good home.

I'm not in the market for (another) one, but I really would love to see - and hear(!!) a video of the car in full swing!

Good looking! Video the drive time for us. ! drooley.gif

Yes, please make a vid before it goes.

I'm pretty sure I've got a 720 distributor in the garage somewhere... I had two of those pickups...

Yep, a little pricey, but they know Subaru owners are made of money, why else would they buy a 914 and wank out a perfectly good engine and install a Subaru motor? hahahaha

And that might be without the intercooler option!

The intercooler setup is pretty sweet....

I don't know about other Subaru conversions but I wanked that VW motor out of my car for a lot more power and better dependability for less cost.

That's really awesome, but I don't see any fuel.
jd74914
I was wondering the same thing. No fuel or throttling.
Mark Henry
A-RPM, that is a dragster engine, not fesable for the road.
There'[s a vid on YT with a guy starting a A-RM engine but he used a turbo. That and another short vid is all he posted, I bet he smoked the engine and lost interest.
