Like is says... I need to fab up a VSS as the 6 speed tranny I have does not have one. I have seen some reluctor rings mounted to CV's Who makes them?

I've never seen a ring mounted on a CV,
but we JB welded 4 magnets to one for a speedo pickup a couple years ago.

Renegade makes an LS ring for the 944. $$$

I went a little over the top on this, but it wasn't too much work and I did it all with a drill press

One photo is my setup on an Audi 01e where I made a two piece reluctor mounted to the cv, and then mounted a LS1 VSS sensor. The other photo is where a guy used an old 944 cam sprocket as a reluctor, and made a bracket to hold the sensor.

Most cars with ABS have CVs that have a reluctor ring on the outboard joint. The diameter might be a concern.

If your transaxle has a speedometer drive, Dakota Digital makes a vss that hooks up to the speedometer drive. I have one my LS6/901 conversion

United Speedometer & Instrument, Inc. is the company that modified the CV flange as the exciter. If the picture is gone from the link above, I will repost it when I get home.

With the right tools, this would be fairly simple to do. You'd need a jig to index the CV flange every 22.5 deg (16 notches) to cut a notch while on a vertical mill.

Well I think it just got easy. I found out the Audi/VW vss is a 2 pulse per revolution. Specifically 1 pulse per meter. I think I can use the stock sensor and add 2 magnets to the CV.

Remind me which transaxle you have. After talking with North Hollywood Speedo, I found out that the Audi VSS is compatible with the Porsche electronic speedo (993 in my case). So perhaps you need to do nothing but wire it up. Mine works fine, and as luck would have it, it's only 1 MPH off.

I have one on my car. It's simply a large zip-tie with a embedded magnet that gets epoxied to the CV.

I have a 2005 Boxster S 6 speed. It is known as a Getrag 466. It only has a reverse light connection. No VSS at all.

So this is what my sensor looks like (random web pic). This plugs into the diff cover on the VW tranny. There is a magnetic ring that clips on to the end of the bearing race thingy.



Here is the magnetic ring right above the bearing. small nut shown stuck to it. This would not fit on the 6 speed diff nor could the cover be swapped or milled to make it work.

So the ring supposedly has 2 magnets inside. At least according to the VW forum. I will verify but it is one pulse per meter which equates (roughly) to 2 magnets on the shaft.

I am going to make a bracket that can hold a factory type sensor and add 2 magnets and see what happens. I have found a 930 aluminum spacer that is setup with 2 grease fittings. The plan it to remove the grease fittings and epoxy magnets in place. Easy?

It is installed on my 930 CV's on the 915 transaxle. The problem with the Porsche speedometer pick up is lost when flipping the R/P .
