I am looking for a set of water shields and saw these. Wonder where the price will top out at

Cheers
Aaron Cox
those are cool!
Root_Werks
I know the guy who makes these. I have one of his sets sitting at my shop right now waiting to put on a customers car. Yeah, they rock. mueba.gif The quality is top notch and they look great installed.

I think he can do them anodized like that or just leave them all aluminum. Either way if anyone wants a set, let me know. I think, mind you think he has been getting around $120 a set for the anodized ones? At least that is what the last set I got from him was.

Well worth it.

Oh, the lips come over a bit so they do offer some water (rain) protection. not as good as water shield ones, but then water shield ones are tin and don't have 914-6 on them! biggrin.gif
Joe Bob
I'm in....

BTW...ya gonna send me some stoopid instructions on the the bell housing kit or should I be able to figure it out when I am underneath?
Kerrys914
beer.gif ROOT hook us up for $100 as a group buy smile.gif
Eric_Shea
It's just the tops right?

Bling-Bling

I'd pay $50 bucks to have them removed from my car laugh.gif
Kerrys914
Don't they serve a function also? They are a water shield of sorts so they are NOT just Bling Bling...

Seems like the normal water shields are over $100. I might as well get something that looks good.
Aaron Cox
they dont look like water shields...they look like a/c tops... water shields have slanted tops i thought...like morph's parts
Porsche Rescue
I think Eric is suggesting he prefers the stock air cleaner, and it also keeps the water out.
Joe Bob
Geez....gimme....a break. Dress it up is no problem.....it ain't rice...
Eric_Shea
That's about as Rice as a 914-6 gets "Cartoonboobyboy" laugh.gif

Me likes (stock or) watersheds that actually shed water wub.gif

You don't want those. Trust me.

There have been "real" 6's and 911's with bad seals in the factory air cleaner assemblies, that have leaked enough (in a car parked in a long term lot at an airport), to cause hydrolock. So you hop in the car and the starter goes "KLUNK". So you try to get it jumped off and the starter just goes "KLUNK". Then you figure, well gee it's a manual shift car, let's just "bump it off", and you get someone or two to push the car, and you pop the clutch and it makes a much louder "KLUNK". So if you are a real Einstein, you have it towed home, and because you live on a hill you figure "I can really get it rolling good and then pop the clutch and break it free", so you get it rolling down the hill at a good 20mph and pop the clutch, and this time it's the loudest "KLUNK" yet, because you just broke a connecting rod, a valve, and a cylinder head. When your engine isn't running, there is at least one cylinder with the intake valve open on the intake stroke (exhaust valve closed). If you fill that cylinder with water it's called hydrolock. Water does not compress very well at all. This has happend more than once.

Just because somebody sells a part that will bolt onto your car doesn't mean they have done all the product testing that should be done. There are even so called name brand aftermarket parts that don't work right.

You get what you pay for. Don't cheap out on a part that could break your engine. Don't buy a set of aircleaners that could give you some serious trouble!

They are what they are ,your right they are not Rainshields, But like any accessory item bling or what ever you either like em or not. Alot of peoplre dont run rainshields, racers ,sunny day cars . I will tell you they have alot of intake noise.
I have had them on my cars for years. I made these about 4 years ago,
Hey, I do have a thin one that goes on top of the rainshields
Proud to be an American I guess is all I can say. flag.gif

I've actually been thinking about some regular K&N watershields for my car cuz the ITG's are so EFFIN' LOUD

They obviously flow well, but you can't hear the exhaust or anything else over the induction sound. [Note howI didn't call it "noise" aktion035.gif ] I'm surprised I haven't been pulled-over yet; knock on wood...
sixnotfour
ITG,s they have the foam on top right ? Total Flow. Air ,water
No dirt . Racer, sunny day.
Or total induction noise affictionado. (I think thats a word)

Mike Z, great marketing plan, billet tops and umbrella top. cool.gif

Yep; see my avatar pic...high-density oiled foam.

They are purportedly better than other designs in restriction (HP loss) as well as filtration performance, but have NO rain provisions and as I mentioned before are as loud as open chokes. Since my car is totally gutted including a lexan rear window and a 'skin' targa top, there is no way to escape the aural assault...

I couldn't give rat's ass about that on the track (unless Laguna or other sound-nazi venues) but for weekend canyon carving I feel like I have an "arrest me" sign taped to my back...
Root_Werks
Zois, sorry dude, I can't believe I missed putting instructions in your package. I PM'd you. pray.gif

As for people commenting on the bling (Hate that word) factor. I think these are very tastefully done and look great under the 914's engine lid. I know of at least one guy who runs these on his 914-6. It is mostly a sunny day track car, but has been caught in the rain a few times. I don't think it is that big a deal with a light rain.

Either way, I will check with Jeff and see if we can do some sort of group buy on a few. re-check the e-bay listing, he added comments.

I didn't mean to sound like I was trashing the product.

There's a fair number of "converters" out there that don't really know what they are buying or getting for that matter. I try to err on the side of caution.

They do look like nice pieces though, and I'd recommend them to someone that knew what they are getting into.

Again, just my .02, but you'd be surprise how many guys don't know what hydrolock is.

Get the best of both worlds, use the nice tops on top of the rain shields!

I bought a six from nebrasksa that had been sitting, Just like you described #1 cylinder was full of water the stock air cleaner. The guy quit driving it because he thought the car was going fold in half.
You are right about providing more info. Jeff
