Put my 914 side shifter (w/ZF ltd. slip) on the bathroom scale....90.4 lbs.
915/916 conversion trans. (mag case, alu.diff. cover, alu.rear cover and ZF ltd. slip) ....108.4 lbs. So, the weight penalty is not 40lbs. as I've often heard, but less..... like half that.
There could be some additional difference in the flywheel / clutch package.

Question. Are those dry weights?

Some thoughts... there are a few weight differences it would be handy to know.

- 914 vs 915 clutch/flywheel packages.
- 915 clutch/flywheel package: ~23lbs with the throwout-bearing

- I don't have a 914 clutch/flywheel package to weigh. But there will be a difference between the 215mm and the 225mm packages, for those who use the latter.

- 915 Aluminum case vs Mag case (I have both, but they aren't where I can weigh them)

- 916 side shift vs mag-case 915 tail shifter, the Aluminum weight can be factored from info above.

My Guard LSD is much heavier than the open diff, but the ZF unit looks smaller than the Guard LSD. That will have to be factored into your weight differences as well.

I'm sure someone of us can make the other weights appear here!

Hi Ron
Did you do a Martin Bott 916 at the same time as me (spring 2013) ?
Mine is complete and waiting, untested. I'd have to do the conversion on my stock original six for that pleasure. The 916 trans is really intended for a GT that I'm doing.
As I commented the clutch /flywheel/ TOB are unknowns. I didn't have them handy to complete the comparison.
Both of the transaxles were empty when I weighed them.
Where did you buy the two (apex ?) sealed universals for your linkage ?
Rory
Steve
Its roughly 90 for 914, 100 for mag 915 and 110 for aluminum 915
I'm not taking into account various clutch and flywheel options.
Mike Bellis
Slightly off topic but the Boxster S 6 speed weighs 110 lbs +/-
brant
the last 914/901 I weighed with an open diff was under the post offices 75lb limit.

I'm not that guy, but for the helicopter joints, I'd get mine from any of several places...

OT: Of course there is always Stromski for a 911 / 915 specific solution

Good luck

I weighed my 914-6 box last fall and got 92lb.
