Found this site. They have done dozens of cages. No 914 pics but saw some interesting things. There are several pics of each car.

You think they cut the roof off of the 350Z so they could weld up and paint that cage without destroying the interior?

Good question.
Many new cars have the roof section as a separate panel that is joined to the ABC pillars. Maybe they removed the roof as a panel.
Or maybe the upper bars were fitted and welded outside the car first.
If they did cut the roof, I don't think its a big deal for guys that weld and cut as much as they seem to do.

Really nice work. They use about a mile of bars on each car.
That Alfa looks like the bars weigh more than the car they started with.

Saw this 350Z during the roll cage install. The roof was not cut off.
