My passenger outside CV joint makes a crunching popping sound when starting from a dead stop!

What is the proper repair method or should I just replace the CV joint?

Replace the whole axle assembly with a rebuilt unit. Several places in the bay area have a exchange program.

Did you hit a curb ? (ever ??) Like previous owner ...ever ??

Not that I know of? We were driving very hard on the Mt Hamilton drive and there were a few pot holes on the hairpins durring heavy acceleration! Could that have caused the same simptoms?

Jeff

PS: Thanks Brad pray.gif for replying, last time I posted this I only got one person to comment.

You can buy single CV joints.. but it's a pain in the ASS to get the old off and the new one on. The circlip that holds them on..is the pain. Most new axle assemblies dont even have a retainer... they allow the CV to float on the splines.

What do the axle assemblies run $$$ and where would you recomend getting them in the bay area?
