That poll shows more OO's than I would've expected, although I'm as close to an OO as you can get, having bought mine at 3 years old when the OO's family outgrew the 914.
I'm the second owner of my 73 914-2.0, having picked it up as my 3rd car in Dec. `75, and I still own 3 of my 5 owned ever since starting to drive in 1967.5 -
#1 - `68 Opel Kadette Notchback 2dr Coupe I4 1.1L 4spd
#2 - `69 Pontiac Ventura 4dr Sedan V8 400cid/2bbl Auto
(it was Dad's & I got when the Opel's engine blew in `71 during college)
#3 - `73 914-2.0
... a "914S"
#4 - `85 BMW 325e 2dr Coupe I6 2.7L EFI 5spd (just finishing rolling resto)
#5 - `88 VW Westy H4 2.1L EFI Auto (just finishing rolling resto)
That's not counting my parents cars, nor the "unofficial #6" `88 Honda Civic Hatchback which was my wife's brothers' (2) since new & passed on to her when the last died, & we did a rolling resto for our kids to drive, now my son's car.
Also technically I do have 2x 914s - with a 74 2L body shell for body/rust repair panels in the garage too, but I bought it with no suspension/wheels - so in my mind it's a big box of 914 parts!
However, we may add a true #6 at some point, as a "tow-capable" vehicle for my wife's recent addition of a restored vintage 1960 Avion T20 travel trailer ( a "fat silver twinkie" similar to Airstream). ... but then, they're never
really done, so I've got myriad little projects to do on it too!
So I tend to keep, maintain & restore my cars, but still use them to drive, although our total aggregate annual mileage is down now that kids are grown & gone, & I tend to use rental on long trips. I'm not much of a "serial offender."
Cheers!
Tom

PS - the unofficial definition of those who asked your initial who keeps a 914 over 5 years is: "flipper" or "ADD Car owner" or maybe "just plain bad luck" .... as one of our group here is experiencing now with what to be his next resto project.
