Hey everyone, I am finally getting around to doing a change and am wondering which transmission fluid should I use. Or should I use a heavy gear oil? Is there anything in there that I should change while I am at it?

Thanks biggrin.gif

Its called Gear oil in a manual transmission.

Use old school DINO oil, non-synthetic GL5 rated.

Its on the bottle, make sure it says GL5
80/90 weight.

You use a 17mm hex to remove plugs.

I would remove top plug first before bottom drain plug. Why? If you drain the tranny and you can't remove top plug, then you are screwed!

When you remove the bottom drain plug, there probably be some small metal shavings on the magnetic plug. This is normal, just clean and remove metal shavings.

If you have a couple hours and are looking for some light reading you could do a search and enjoy all of the Swepco vs. dino oil threads, the make sure you have the 17mm allen socket to remove the drain plug threads and the make sure you can actually remove the fill plug before you remove the drain plug threads.

Here's what I put in mine.
