Hello everybody

I just discovered (with pleasure) your forum for 914 ... that there is virtually no in France
Presentation: Marco - lives near Paris in France
Owner of:
911 2.7 carrera 1974 (320 000 km = 200,000 miles)
914-4 1.7 1972 (96 000 km = 60 000 miles)
remark: there are less than 100 porsche 914 in France in very good condition which explains that there is very little technical forum about it here

Changes (basic) that have been made to date on my 914 :
- Set short lever travel
- HT Coil 30,000 volts
- Silent Monza T-Bird 2 outputs
- Admission ram air carbon

My project: gain 20 to 30 horses power for my 914-4
I do not want to invest a lot or have to carry out work too "technical": I am a marketing man and mechanic medium

thank you in advance for all your answers rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif
Note that I speak American not terrible either sad.gif

Best Regards
Marco

Welcome!

To your question...

The easiest and most affordable hp gain is to lose weight off of the car, period. That will increase your power/weight ratio. Also, making your car lighter improves the handling by reducing inertia (stored energy in the mass)... you can turn quicker. These cars aren't dragsters.

About increasing the power.

Engine improvements in that range (approximately 20% - 30%) mean a lot of work and money. Larger pistons, different exhaust, changing the fuel delivery system, etc. There are a lot of posts in this forum and others about how to do those things. But dropping weight is a far better place to start than the engine.

Cost vs benefit of your choices

- The most interesting 4-cylinder 914 I've ever driven was a car with an excellent suspension and really good brakes. The quality of the suspension/brakes, and money put into your driving experiences (i.e track days and sloloms), pay far more dividends in driving enjoyment, and safety, than hp increases.

- I've had both a 2.7L and 3.6L engines in my car. But both power improvements would have been useless, perhaps dangerous, without a good suspension and brakes in combination along with them.

I'd put your money there first. If you want more power after you've...

1. made the car body as light and rigid as possible
2. made the suspension and brakes wonderful, and
3. driven the car on as many high-speed events as possible

then start power improvements.

Don't know what you mean about a short lever. Does that mean a lowered suspension or a short-shifter?

Good luck!

welcome.png It is always nice to see people from all over who love these cars. I agree with some of the others that improving on your cars brakes and suspension and perhaps make it a bit lighter if possible are the best first steps. Then consider making your 1.7 a 2.0 for some horsepower gains. The trick is to keep it 100% reliable so you can enjoy driving it. Good luck and welcome again.

There are at least two other guys I know of living in France. Gilles (TRITOUCS on this forum), and his friend, Erwan LE MAUT.

Gilles bought a 914-6 from a local southern California member, and Erwan purchased a bra from me.

Maybe you know them?

making adjustments or changes to the engine to gain horse power is not very easy or inexpensive.

these cars are not like more modern cars that can be tuned with some easy programmers, this is because the fuel injection systems on these cars are very primitive and are not very adjustable for modification.

to get the increase in power you want would require a camshaft change and also an increase in engine displacement. neither of these are "simple". they require the engine to be disassembled to make these changes.

the 914 is a "momentum" car with great handling. learn to drive it to love it.

Maybe 914 = Nine Fourteen = 'Fourteen = Quatorze = "Torze"
The new French nickname I just invented.

Let's see if it sticks.

Salut "Montreal"
Je constate en effet que ce forum est une mine d'or pour trouver des infos smile.gif

Hi "Montreal"
I see indeed that this forum is a gold mine to find info smile.gif

Je viens de terminer la refection de ma tringlerie de boite de vitesse et je ferai des photos dés que possible .... bien que ma 914 n'a rien d'exceptionnel si ce n'est qu'elle est en bon état .....

I just finished rebuilding my gearbox linkage and I'll pictures as soon as possible .... although my 914 does nothing special except that it is in good condition .....

See you
Marco
