Right side up. The cooling flaps seem to be in the max cool position. Mine are in that position permanently as I disconnected the bellows years ago.

Max. cooling means the pass. side flap is DOWN to direct air through the oil cooler ...
Ya , and in most engines that I have seen, the dipstick comes out of the top. 
Sometimes the dipstick is sitting in the driver's seat.
