Well I went and got my self a full college education. Finished my last final on Thurs and I am still a bit out of it. My brain feels like a five pound sack with ten pounds of...well you get it. Now I have to get motivated to work onthe teener. I need to get it done before the end of July when I will hopefully be having a going out of business sale and packing all of my crap up to move to what ever med school accepts me. for those of you who live near Albany, NY I wont be going there (they told me so today If any one needs help down my way, I am looking to be more involved for the next 8 months before I transfer (I hope). In-N-Out, fun runs (biking it till the car is up), etc, hit me up! This is the first vacation that I have had since starting college so I am looking for a good time if you know what I mean. Anyone want to help me do my /6 conversion?

So what kind of Dr are you going to be, OBGYN or butthole ?

My friends little brother just graduated from med school and is going into gastroenerology (glorified but doc ). I like messing with him, but he is realy good natured. As for Gyno, when I flew all day in the Coast Guard I loved it, but when I got home the last thing that I wanted to do was fly. Make the connection and you will see that that is not in my future. I am looking into orthopedic surgery, neurology (I have a deacent back ground in neuro anatomy and physiology), emergency medicine, and general medicine. If I did general medicine I would like to be the doc for a small town. Really fullfilling, small towns are cool, and I get to make my own hours.

If all that fails i'll just go into pathology. The patients are already dead so the law suits and complaints are fewer :finger2:

I do not think that the abuse of marijuana has any medicinal benifits that could not be gotten form another pharmaceutical source. The drugs from the pharmacy would likely be less fun for you, but the abuse of MJ is detrimental in so many ways as to out weigh the bennefits (if infact there are any). The damage alone to you hippocampal pyramidal cells and thusly your functional working memory would keep me from perscribing it. I understand you were probably kidding, but that kind of thing tends to desensitize a brain altering addiction. I would appreciate you not making drug references while communicating with me in the future.

Actually, you'd be surprised. Pathologists are the MOST sued physicians. Second are the radiologists.

There's one simple reason: they never see any patients. What they see are slides and xrays. So, when a woman gets cervical cancer, the last three pathologists that read her pap smear slides generally get sued.

It's easy to sue somebody you've never seen, talked to, or had any relationship with other than a bill when you've got a new cancer.

Anyway, I probably shouldn't sign it (always seems arrogant to me, but....)

Not arrogant at all. You should be proud of your achievments. Its not like you are trying to talk down to anyone. I agree with you about the suing of pathologists, and radiologists. My friends bro in law is a radiologist and it just breaks his heart when patients sue him over things that are not really with in his control. Such is our letigous society further heading into the belief that all is under the influence of an external locus of control. Soon we will be able to sue god.

As for doctor jobs that make a lot of $$$ for little work, I am not exactly interested. I have always been poor so any income would benice. I am more interested in enjoying and being the best at my craft. I like to be useful and realy miss the public service aspects of my former job in the Coast Guard. My good friend is finishing up his 4th year at Duke and first wanted to be an anesthesiologist. He has switched his mind and is looking for a residency as a gastrointerologist. My friends dad is a doc and thought that that was a stupid move because now he will have to work more and may not get paid as much for less. I don't particularly like that way of thinking. Eh, what a ya gonna do.

1 hour south of UVA.

1.75 hours west of VCU.

VCU is fair, but Richmond is a snakepit. Full of gutter rats and crime. NOT my first choice unless you want to learn on those kinds of people. Also, the cost of living is somewhat high (in the nice places, you CAN live on Carey street if you want, but I wouldn't)

I prefer UVA, (but then I graduated from there twice, 1991 and 1995). A MUCH nicer town, and the medical students there are top notch. Of course, it isn't cheap there either, unless you live out from the school some distance.

What passes as high rent? I live in San Diego and we have some of the highest rent in the country. I live in an 80 year old house, 2 bedroom one bath, with no real modern amenities, around 750sq ft, that is slowly sinking ass first into the ground and the rent is $1100. Apartments around here go for $1100 for a 2bd/1ba in the hood. It is close enough to the hood (across the street) that the residents sometimes venture over here to pilfer things. I have lived in the hood many times (not by choice, but of economic necessity) and think that Richmnod may just be a step up for me If I am not mistaken, UVA has particularly high standards. I am not sure about applying there as I think my chances are not the best given my last MCAT score. I'll have to see, but I did just get an interview at Penn state! Hershey Swapmeet, oh ya! (like I'll have time).
