Ok don't be mean. I'm just learning.

I'm gunna start rebuilding a 2.0 engine. Heads are gunna be p & p'd. Case align bored. New cyl/pistons, cam and lifters. Yada yada. There are cylinders on Ebay with a 104mm configuration. I am interested in bringing the motor to a 2.4L. Has anyone used these cylinders and why or why not they are any good? All the parts will be sent out to have ceramic coating done and possibly cryro'd also. The link to the cylinders is:

Poke around here for posts by Raby on why cast-iron cylinders larger than 96mm are, umm, problematical.

They're fine if you want ~15K miles out of the engine. If you want more, pony up for the Nickes or just stick with 96es.

FYI www.aircooled.net carries many interesting Type 4 things.

Why would you get it align bored? are you running a type 1 engine? The type 4 has case through bolts and doesnt require align boring when you rebuild. It doesnt take the same beating as other VW engines. I cant believe DD didnt tell you that.

Well, if it's already been align-bored...

Actually, from the sound of it, more and more Type IVs are needing to be align-bored. It's not something you do every time, the way it is with Type Is, but now that most of our cases have a half-million miles on them some of them actually do seem to need it.
