Check Vin Number on driver's windshield column. If the first three numbers are 471 it is a four. I think all four's had the key ignition on steering column. The sixes were on the dash.

Does the vin start with 914? If not, it is probably a conversion car. More info and pics will help tell for sure.

Since your car is a 71, the vin would start w/ 471 for a 4cyl. If it's a six the vin starts w/ 914.

i will get pics in a.m. for everyone....the ignition is on dash left of the steering wheel, and i will check for the vin on the windshield column....however not bad for $200

No doubt! I'd bet selling that steering column alone would cover the costs. That's a hell of a deal!

Also check the VIN tag on the driver's side door jamb

$200.? The components are worth a lot more than that, even if the car is beyond repair.
