My 2056 has a Monza muffler. Sounds good but it is exceptionally loud. I have looked around but I have not seen many alternatives to what I have that would be quieter but still have some reasonable performance. Well let me clarify that statement. I have not seen options that I would pay the asking price for!
Thoughts?

IMHO Triad is the way to go. Otherwise stock, but I haven't looked at a new one in years, so the quality may have gone to crap like everything else.

No, he wants something quiter. Rhymes with Twitter. I guess either way it means the same... Quit exhausting so much noise!

I've always like the Triads. And Dave is a good PNW guy who still cares about the product.

I assume a sebring and a bursch should be similar and not too very loud.
the sebring being 2 piece, may come in handy later on when replacing muffler at a later date.

I picked up a used Dansk 2.0 muffler from this site years ago to replace the Monza that came on my car because I just didn't like the way it sounded or looked. The Dansk sounds great, looks perfect and I love it. Exactly what I was looking for having never heard a stock 914 2.0 in my life.
My $0.02 for what its worth,

My Bursch is relatively loud--about as loud as a "thoroughly blown-out" stock muffler. The Triad mufflers I have heard were as loud as the Bursch, or louder. (One was painfully so.)
The stock muffler, in good condition, will be the quietest one available.

The Triad on my 2.0L sounds great at idle. It sounds great at wide-open-throttle. The dual pipes out the back look cool. But it is loud.
Is there not a thread here with all the different exhaust notes side by side?

I picked up a triad for a 2.0 a few years ago. Quality from Dave was top notch. He's a craftsman. No doubt. It's been my favorite so far and I think ill out one on my six conversion.

Nice thing about the Bursch is that you can pick from an assortment of packed or chambered mufflers to find one with the tone &/or decibles that you wish.
The OE banana is my favorite though.

Triad is as Loud as the Monza, but much better looking. About the only thing I can say bad about the Triad is that the Welds look like they were made by a 12 Year Old

I'd think that you'd be happiest with the original banana muffler (Dansk, Leitschrift) as they really are quiet efficient. After having several different ones over the years, all my cars are back to the original style and are not too loud.

I would try to find a wasted bursch and get two mufflers welded to it.

Keep your eyes out for a used muffler on here or CraigsList. I had a Monza- super heavy and super loud. It was fun for a while, but I eventually grew tired of setting off car alarms in the garage at work. Ditched it for a used Bursch I picked up for $25. The Bursch is definitely quieter in comparison. As has been stated previously, the OEM banana is your quietest option.

if you can source the correct bursch style with good piping, you can prob find a quieter muffler to swap out and not break the bank.

Just replaced the Monza on my 2.0 with a stock banana muffler that I had ceramic coated. What a difference! You immediately lose the rumble, but there is also a noticeable difference in throttle response. The car seems peppier when it isn't forced to pretend that it's a muscle car.

Everyone is down on the Bursch quiet, as shown in the photos above, but I used one for years and didn't think it was bad. Not too loud. Years earlier I had tried a new Monza and couldn't take it. Too damn loud! But I was younger then, and those four Italian style pipes were just too cool to resist.

I'm running a Leistritz, it's a stock OEM unit. I like how its quiet until you get on it, it's like 2/3rds of the old 911....
I had a Bursch on the 2.0, louder but a nice tone

I bought a stock muffler off of Ebay for about $75. Its in good shape and is quiet.
The only catch for me was it took the guy 6 weeks to get it to me. Turns out he was using on his car waiting for a new system to be delivered. He took it off to photograph it then put it right back on.

I heard a Bursch and it wasn't bad at all. The Triad I sold sounded nice from the outside but was too loud for my taste in the inside. I now have an OEM banana waiting to be installed. I am sure I will love it.

I tihnk with a large enough muffler welded on, a bursch can sound nice, otherwise that and the monza sound like a VW bug.
I had purchased an OEM Leistritz muffler when I had my for, and honestly, it was the best sound/volume I had heard on a 4 cylinder with stock pipes..

There are at least two different Bursch models. The picture that Jim posted is called "street", I believe. The one I have looks the same, but it has a glass pack instead of a conventional muffler. I think it is called "performance" or "performance street". It sounds pretty good on my 1.8 (with backdated 2.0 exhaust), but it is louder than I would like. It also repels paint for some reason. They are notorious for this.
I believe that Triad makes a quiet version, if I recall correctly.

+1 for the quiet Bursch. Light, nice low tone w/o resonation, slightly improves acceleration, available used for $50-100. All around good.

I too replaced a Monza that came on the car when I bought it. I purchased an OEM Leistritz muffler from the Samba, for $400.
I am much happier with the sound, and the look of the OEM.

Jaime, I wish I had that muffler. I sold it a while back before I sold my 4 cylinder.
That last muffler you guys posted appears to be a Sebring muffler that someone welded a Cherry Bomb glasspack on.
I believe Pelican sells them, and they're pretty cheap.
Here's an idea guys, I think it was brought up a long time ago on a 911 forum, but would people be interested in creating a muffler exchange? Where a few people own the different types of mufflers, and people who want to try out a muffler on their car simply borrows it or rents it, so they can see if it's something they want to purchase.
Might be a pain to run, but maybe if you sent a paypal payment for collateral, and when they recieved the muffler back, you refund their paypal.. Because if you guys are anything like me, deciding on a muffler/exhaust combo on my car was really quite difficult.
