http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL7kLL-9tj0Wowza, but looks like the targa top is not completely solid. Shows a slight fold when retracting. Maybe Targ-vertible is a better name?

Yeah it definitely folds it up, you can see it happen slower on the 'roof system' part of this site.

The mechanism looks uber-komplikated ... people just get lazy.
Now wait for the 2015 lightweight "speedster" version with a solid carbon fiber targa roof that you remove the "classic way"...

Maybe one of you young energetic enterprising fabricators can come up with a nice brushed s/s targa bar wrap for 914s that looks like the 911 targa wrap?

Wow, WAY more complicated than I thought it would be!!!
I guess they used the same mechanism as the cabriolet to save costs...so that makes sense.

When I restore my 914 someday, I have often considered this. Brushed stainless steel targa bar and sail panels.... Could look really good.

Nice car!!
I see a few delicate pieces popping up in that mechanism...sure to break.
I see some curves in there that look a whole lot like Mulhollond Highway.

Looks like it's just cosmetic - no real 'roll bar' properties

Yeah, cuz it would be so hard for people to take off a Targa like ours! That Fucher must have added 200 lbs to an already bloated car!

Though I like it a little more than the butt-ugly Vette.
Good idea, but poorly implemented. What is the point of an electronic Targa over a convertible, other than maybe some added torsional rigidity and added weight?

To me the beauty of the 911 roof shape was the nice arc from the top of the windshield all the way to the back of the car. The old Targas messed that up - it seemed like they had a flat roof that took a sudden down turn at the back of the roof. It broke the arc shape.
This new one has finally brought a Targa without ruining the roof line. Looks nice.

That's exactly what I thought; except in the Vette the targa top does not add an excessive amount of weight way up high!
Oh and now that design is out dated since the Stingray came out. The sting in the stingray is felt in the resale value of the C6

That retractable targa top is the ultimate in laziness. Seems like it would have been better to just remove it by hand? I guess that (and severe lack of resources) is why I like older cars better.
Maybe you can pull the rear glass off for easy access to the top of the engine but I doubt it.... then the targa top would smell like engine
