I know that it my fault for getting Kent hooked on 914's, he first painted my 72 and then all the metal work and awesome paint on the six. I posted a few pics of his V8 conversion in my thread but here's where he's at and its almost ready for paint.
Maybe we can get him to start posting what he's done on it up to now

Looks good. I'm digging the flares I think
. It's a little hard to see the definition of them in the primer. Im sure it will look kick ass

Neat.
That looks like plenty of room for modern "shallow" drivers.

+1. Are those little projector beams going to be enough to light up the road or do you have plans for additional lighting?

I will have additional lighing in the bumper but these should be sufficient to light the way and keep the cops from hassling me for the headlights being to low.

That looks fantastic!
Did he mock the firewall to valve cover up? Typically you have to hit it a bit in on the drivers side to give it a bit of clearance for taller valve covers.

I chose to clearance the valve cover rather than the firewall, the covers have a lot of room to give. should look clean.

Hi Rich. I used the chop saw to cut it.

There's a chop saw blade you can get for aluminum that will cut a very clean edge. No flash, no cleanup. I had one for many tears and it was worth the investment. The hard part was making sure no one in the shop used it for anything else.

So I had bought some aftermarket "custom" mirrors on line and they were junk so one night wile I was out on a run... OK, walk. I saw a Saturn Sky (2007-09) that had the perfect mirror for the look I wanted. I figured they were in the $300 to $400 range being new and electric but I was surprised to see new OEM ones (manual) on line for $45.00 so I grabbed two. I made a base plate/adaptor to make them fit.

I covered the door and mirror with mask then packed 3M Kitty Hair under the base of the mirror where it was not quite meeting the contour of the door then hand sanded the piece untill it was a nice shape. Then I primerd and painted it in satin finnish.

So the piece between the door and the mirror is the only mod? I did not see if you said how you made it, or what it is made from.
They are growing on me.
I think the color and shine of the paint, or lack there of, is AWESOME. Alittle too Long Horn orange for me, but it too is growing on me.

Thanks. At the top of the last pic I threw in what I used to make them. It's just Kitty Hair, basicly filler with strands of fiberglass matting in it. Other than the little gap, the mirror fit well.

Very nice build!
For how much custom work is going into this build, I would suggest fuel injection over that carburetor.

I do not know how I never saw this thread. I can't say enough about Kent's work- he is a metal/paint master of masters. We have seen this car in person several times and the work is excellent. Also, the engine...it just rocks your soul.
My brother and I still talk about Kent's work today with almost 10K miles on my car it still looks new. We both dream of Kent doing metal and paint on our next project....hint, it is likely going to be American muscle and older than my Six.

Your pics have me wondering if the Italian turn-signal lenses could be "sanded" from the inside to get rid of the fluting (or maybe just where it counts?) for projectors.
Always fun to see one of these cars with no headlights...front end takes on a whole different vibe and I dig it.

He never did add lights in the bumper and I had to install the horns underneath like my 75 914.
The lights in the turn signal work fine, but are only low beams.

Can you share any details on the projectors you used in the turn signal openings? I was just going to run headlights in the rectangle fog light openings in the bumper, but I really like the idea of projectors in the turn signal openings!
Beautiful car!
