Called to get pricing and to see if they had a new windshield frame seal in stock.... got Frank (?) on the phone..turns out he is a 914 owner as well.....smooth transaction.....web site still needs some work..or it could be my browser (Opera) .......oh yea, they list my front bearings with a weight of 10lbs which is too much and can be misleading to those shopping IPB Image

There is a bunch of great people that work at GPR. They really stand behind what they sell as well. I like that. rocking nana.gif

Its the browser (I use opera as well). I loaded mozilla firefox for the few sites that dont work on opera.

I actually ordered from GPR this morning too after getting bogus information from another parts vendor in so cal. GPR was awesome. Their site was lacking a few things, but I called and it was taken care of.

Frank the new guy....He's pretty cool to talk with. Dave had some problems and had to reaarange things. But like always GPR has got to be top notch for parts.
736conver
Oh and thats the price we pay for using a cool browser. Opera rules.
I love all the mouse functions.

I also like dealing with GPR/Dave,
just ordered my Bilstein/H&R Cup Kit for my Jetta a couple of weeks ago.

But,
I wonder IF Dave/GPR has heard ALL the stories about AA, who they just MERGED with. IPB Image

Maybe the aa folks will learn how to provide good Customer Service & how to Ship properly from GPR! IPB Image

from what I understand, it's not really a "merge", just more of an alliance for getting more products and sources.....

Me and Dave had a nice talk about that. He saw what they were saying over on the bird board but he doesnt read this site.
His customer service will remain the same. Which is excellent. It was to help AA more then it was for GPR.

I have always dealt with Jim and have never been let down. Seems to be a great outfit.

GPR has always been one of the Good Guys. I bought from them before I started with Pelican (heck, before there even was a Pelican!) and was always pleased with the service and the prices. It is well worth supporting a business like that.

Jason at Paragon is another one of the White Hats.

Hopefully Pelican is as well, but I'm not in the best position to judge that....

Very supportive of POC track events, too!

Never had a problem with The Bird or GPR. IPB Image Greg at GPR helped me a lot last year. Last week I just had a run-in with AA where they shipped my part to another guy in Kirkland, WA. The guy was nice enough to email me and send the part to me. Went to AA to tell them of their F-up and they pretty much blew me off. IPB Image

Never, never, never will I ever go to AA again IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image IPB Image

There, now I feel better.

that's most people's experience here. sure hope that the AA guy on the board can see this and take it constructively. it might be nice to have another reliable source for parts.

I had a little problem with pelican a couple of weeks ago. I ordered a brake rotor and shift bushing kit on sunday. I get confirmation on monday. On tuesday they tell me its delayed because they dont have a bushing so I should get it next week (christmas is saturday). I call them on wednesday telling them i want to willcall my rotor so i can get my car running. I drive down wednesday (which took 3 hours because of LA traffic), get my parts. It turns out they had the shift bushing the whole time (what was delaying the order). I get my parts, take off, get home, and realize I got the wrong rotor. Correct packaging, wrong part. Its kinda my fault because I should have checked, but frusturating nonetheless. Ah well, my car is still on jack stands (siezed caliper) so it wouldnt have mattered.

Sorry about that - I hope Travis helped you out with the return.

There's not much we can do about that - we get the parts (rotors) in the packaging from our supplier. If for some reason the manufacturer mis-marked the parts, or some switcheroo happened, I can't really think of a good way to catch that. My warehouse people know parts, but they wouldn't know the difference between early and late 914 brake rotors...

I've got 98% of my new parts from PP, always the correct part, always shipped quickly. smilie_pokal.gif

Got my "first" set of caliper rebuild kits from GPR, same experience. beer.gif

I have known Dave at GPR for about 14 years now. Everyone there has always treated me great.

I have a project for which I will be ordering parts from GPR again soon. Watch the threads to see what I am up to now. happy11.gif

If I can't get it from my local wholesaler, then I call GPR, always. biggrin.gif

Wow guys, Its great to this...

Daves been in business a long time, and we're happy to know we're doing a good job. rocking nana.gif

Hey Mike, i've never heard of any Franks... confused24.gif
Theres a Dave, Jim, Mark, Jason, and Don... any of those ring a bell?

Can they get steel GT flares? I have checked the site and they aren't listed. Does anyone other than ar15.gif AA sell steel ones ?? 12 years of buying parts for almost every model Porsche and not 1 order has been 100% right from them. I would rather buy from Cali and get it right. Sorry to hi-jack
BigD9146gt
NO worries Scotty, your not hijacking...

GPR can get the flares from AA. That was the whole deal (even though the ad was horribly written), GPR and AA are pooling from eachothers stash to provide more parts for you guys. AA has lots of reproduction parts, and GPR has lots of good used parts. So those that shop at AA can still GPR's parts, GPR customers can get AA parts.

short term memory problem...hell, I don't know who I spoke to now smile.gif

I do know Dave called me to let me know they hadn't shipped it yet and wanted to make sure I didn't "have" to have by the weekend, if I did, he would have Fed-Ex'd it to me.....I told him I was not in a hurry, but thanks for asking.....we then spoke on the phone for a 30 minutes talking 914 and business stuff....they are selling my bearings thru their relationship with Tarett Engineering smile.gif

Hi People
I am a very old customer of GPR, way before "Web" stores. I used to rush to the bookstore and buy anything with 914 adds or VW type4 stuff. Then spend hundreds of $$$ of long distance phone calls, just to talk to VW bug or 911 experts. After some HORRIBLE advice, parts, money etc...from some other "well known" suppliers, the only one that I am mentioning is closed (I think) the others are member of this board (I think), I buy a mag with a GPR add and saw a small space that mentioned a 914 part. Now, there is a long story before this and lets just say, I was in deep$$$ and distressed, angry, name it, I call with a carb problem, I screwed with the jets till everything was messed. I think his name was Dave, but this is 12 to 15 years ago... anyway, I ask very gently if its cool to talk 914 (I have had some big Porsche places laugh at 914s) and he says "Ya Man we kinda cut our teeth on 914s". I fall over and start to explain my stuff, he goes "Hey sounds just like my setup, what you need is jet #xxxx , Jet # xxxxx , Jet # xxxxxx , this conversation took about half an hour (this was the time AA was charging 10 or 15 bucks for advice), and he even says I can find the parts locally at a Dell supplier, I said "no way, just send them". I put them in and "BANG" I'm in business. I can write a 10 page topic on bad experiences, anybody want to talk about "Stevens machining perfomance" .
To this day I am still running these jets, how do you say thanx for over 10 years of 914 fun. If he's out there, I am lifting my beer to your health, cheers. beer.gif
Back in the day we had no way of comparing suppliers it was all hit and miss. PS I am not 40 yet.
THUMBS UP GPR

Pelican carries the AA flares as well. I wouldn't be that surprised to find that many or most of the aftermarket parts places can get the AA flares...

biggrin.gif Thats good to know. I realize the $ ends up at AA but avoiding the hassle is worth buying from others. Plus it takes just as long from one as it does from the other, and I'm just 3 states away! when I first started dealing with them I would get mymparts in 2-3 days, now it takes a week at least.

I live in Atlanta and have been messing around with 914s for more than 20 years. There is a reason why I spend all I can elsewhere than locally. AA does not have a good reputation in the Atlanta area so I was surprised to learn that GPR and AA were teaming up.

I really do not take pleasure in warning folks about AA but I feel like they have had planty of time to change their tune if they really wanted to.....I am certainly not the first person to have these kinds of experiences.

I have not dealt with GPR so if they have found a way to work with AA on a level that works for them, then great for GPR and maybe - good for us. I will certainly give GPR a try.

I've known Dave from when oil came in round quart paper cans with tin tops, he was getting a thing called MidEngineMania going , which was 914s primarilly.
I was speaking to him on the phone today and he remembered my old shop in the SG Valley... said it was scarey . I agreed with him ! I then increased GPRs credit line for having done that to him laugh.gif
Good place to buy your stuff...

GPR ROCKS!!!!! No where else can you order and have the part on your porch the next day without paying through the nose for shipping. They are always consistant and if I remember correctly also supported WCC '04. smilie_pokal.gif smilie_pokal.gif smilie_pokal.gif

My first purchase from Dave (pre-GPR) was before some of you guys were prolly even born yet idea.gif (Maybe not, but somewhere around 1991/92-ish). One of the "Go To" places, for sure. Had a very positive GPR experience this past xmas, come to think of it.

I too have known Dave since he began as Mid Engine Mania. Heck , I used to make a Christmas list of 914 stuff I wanted/needed and then gave it to my wife with instructions to call Dave and order the stuff from him. Never a bad transaction and I always got what I wanted under the xmas tree! It's good to see he's working with AA. Hope he teach them a thing or 2 about customer service. AA has things that I've not been able to find anywhere else. Last couple of orders with AA have been ok, but I avoid them as much as possible. Maybe things are better, I hope for all of us they are/will be. Good luck Dave!!
