VEry nice....
I moved out from Pleasanton to lake merritt right on the shore, and yes you re right , it is very pretty and a very nice place to live!!!I really like it here.
ok, so anything around the oakland area ???
Bauer?
Anything else?I'll hit them up and see how they are.
I have some kind of engine noise but the car runs fine...and I know its not like an internal noise...no rods, pistons problems....
Is the 914 known to have pretty weak heads?
One of my friend who is a VW mechanic told me that the exhaust manifolds could be faulty after a while....he was thinking about checking out the noise I have that it might have been a loose/broken exhaust manifold bolt(S) ????

Any of you guys heard or seen that before?
Is Andy up in here to give me some advices?
The car drives fine and has plenty of power kust makes a vibration sound sometimes when stopped at the light.
Thank you all
R.

Many of wish we were closer to HPH but unfortunately they are on the other side of the bay. Takes me over an hour to get there usually.

I found this mechanic's advertisement on Craigslist but I haven't hired him yet. I think he is in the 408 area code...last paragraph is an email response.

Do you have a 1970-'76 Porsche 914 that needs work? Electrical, fuel injection problems are my specialty. I've brought many back from the dead! These are awesome little cars, and with the right guy working on it..you'll be a very satisified customer. I install oil coolers and other enhancements to make your run to its optimum..

I am not a club member. I have done pit mechanic
work for the PCA in the past. My rates are very
reasonable, I charge $50.00/Hr. I have been working on
914/6's for over twenty years. I am a retired AMA
racer and have owned and modified 8 of these cars.

Let me know if anyone knows this guy for a reference.

ayupp, just saw this thread ...

HPH in redwood city is a good choice if you can make it over the bridge.

then there's bill eason from Eason Autoworks here in oakland ...

Eason Autoworks
3423 Harlan Street
Oakland, CA 94608
510-420-1262

he's only 2 blocks away from EASY, kind of a sketchy area but he does good work and he knows 914s ...

hard to tell from your description ...

could be anything, from a battery that is not tied down right and moves around to a exhuast leak to a broken suspension console ...

i would have to hear it in person,

What about Porboys, just off the freeway near Fruitvale Bart.
They also sponsor the PCA beginers Auto x.
I think we should look to sponsors first.
They did a lot of work on my 76 2.0 and they were fast and sharp.

hehe guys, thanks a bunch for your advice......
I took the car to Bauer, turns out its right down the street from me!!!!
GReat guy....awesome service!!!!
He even let me walk around the shop and when he saw me starring at his 914 race car, he gave me a tour of all the cars he has....and guess what ....He's got a 914 1.8l and he wants a couple $100 bills for it....
Anyone interested?
The car is a project indeed but he told me the motor was running strong, and the car was ready to go, just a little TLC....and Vrrroooom!

Now back to my problem....He fixed it within 3 minutes....the heater pipes from the exhaust going back to the car was loose and the exhaust studs were loose to.....couple of turns and he fixed it....
really good guy!(he gave me $30 to write this)

No seriously, I'm glad I know about this garage now.($50 for that!!!!! IPB Image )
