Put yer right foot in, sit your arse down and swing in the left.
mepstein
who cares? your driving a porsche, not a minivan.
rnellums
right leg in, slide under steering wheel while supporting my weight on the console armrest, sit in seat, pull last leg in and over the threshold.

I'm 6'4" though.

Yup! But then, I'm short.
dlestep
first, I slide my right leg in and nail the seat with my ass. Soon after that, I swing
my left leg in and then bungie cord my cock to the right side of the ashtray, so it won't get caught in the steering wheel.

speaking of getting in and out of the 914. im in the middle of a build, and the topic of seats came up today. im a little concerned about going with high bolstered seats. i dont want it to be a super PIA getting in and out of it. i have almost ruled out putting in a roll cage because im worried about getting in and out of it.

Head first and then careful not to bag myself on the shifter.

whats your technique

I use the door brace from my roll-cage as leverage. Much easier to get in and out that way ...

Rt foot then slid into seat while holding onto steering wheel then left foot. I am 6'1", it is still a cool car that is fun to drive. shades.gif

Now, go back and read how everyone gets in while you hum the 'Hokie Pokie!'

Easy. I just remove the steering wheel.

Btw folks, a 914 is ten times easier to exit than a c4 Vette. Even getting out of the passenger seat.

I've frequently bumped the fuse panel - no cover - when getting in, so I'm careful to get my right leg all the way to the loud pedal before I plop my butt down....piece 'o cake. Getting out is another story altogether. shades.gif

with skill and dexterity piratenanner.gif ...my roof is rarely on, so that obstacle is out of the picture

However I have to do it, its easier than ingress and egress from my pal's '86 Corvette and a '92 Miata I used to have.

And besides, the hard part is getting UNDER it which I have to do almost as much.

There's hope. The weather is getting nice and the top is coming off soon.

So no one has posted what to do if you are like me: short, fat, and have bad knees. So in the unlikely event that there is someone on this site who is not 6ft+ and skinny, I'll share my experiences .....

Getting in, I agree with everyone. Getting out, I have found the best way is to lean your head and torso as far over the passenger seat as you can (almost laying down), then slip both legs out the door, sit up and get out.
OU8AVW
Right foot in, mash my ass against the back of the seat and slide down using my right leg to lower me onto the seat, then left foot in.
Getting out I put my hand on the top of the rocker, left leg out and lift out with my arm and leg.
I'm 6'2" and this works in my 944 too. This is a technique I learned from Magnum PI.....

Seems thats how us short people do it.

how many of you have cracked your windshield leaning on the A pillar getting in?
ClayPerrine
To get out, I just swing my legs out and stand up.

To get in, I follow the Haynes procedure "assembly is the reverse of disassembly"

Do you ever hit your head on the fuse panel when getting out?

I've never thought about how I get in/out...I just get in and out however I feel. I didn't realize you had to have a technique. I guess it depends on where you're getting in/out (tight garage, flat ground, curb, etc.)

I definitely get out by putting my left palm onto the sill and swing legs out. Getting in to any sports car is the same in principle: it is an act of faith, mainly involving aligning the back of the driver with the back of the seat and letting gravity take over. The faith being the landing will be OK. You moderate the fall with your back and maybe a leg in the foot well. I have noticed that this free fall into the seat is quite unsettling for many. They don't have the faith.

This is the most tortured thing I've seen in a while. Really, we have to ask how to get in our car? Time to move this to the sandbox and give it a proper burial. Oof.

Can't figure out how to get in your car. Frumble rulble mulble shss pshh. stupid. Get a limo. Racka fracka, nimble nonsense.
