Last year I drove the 914 from Michigan to West Virginia. I was climbing Sandstone mountain with an elevation of 2700ft and a 7% incline for about five miles and my 1.7 914 really bogged down. Maybe I should have shifted to a lower gear earlier or is it just the lack of power having a 1.7.

Generally you want to keep the rev's above 3k when loading the engine. low power and higher head temps result from loading lower revs.

More experienced people will add details, I'm sure. I would like to know more.

Eg: What is considered "Loading the engine"

I have an idea but could use some guidance too.
