For my 3.0L SC motor with Weber carbs to a 901 transmission - I'm planning on a new Kennedy 228mm flywheel and 228mm Stage II pressure plate.

My existing 215mm 914 4 spring clutch disc still has life left on it - can this be used at all? I've seen some notes that 215mm can be used on 228mm flywheels...is this true or do I need the 228 with 6 springs for a /6 engine?

Thanks.

You can't use a 215mm disk with a 225mm flywheel and pressure plate.

To use a 215mm clutch, you have to have an early 911/914-6 flywheel. But that won't fit a 3.0SC motor. You can get an adapter flywheel from Kennedy engineering. But you would have to use the 215mm pressure plate with the adapter flywheel.

A 3.0 to 901 conversion uses a stock 911 flywheel, a conversion ring (that also has the starter gear) and a heavy duty late bus 228mm pressure plate. The disc is also bus, but it's not much different from a 911/914 215mm disc.

The 4 spring on a stock /4 has clearance issues with the crank bolts when you resurface the flywheel, it may have clearance issue with the 3.0 crank bolts as well.
A 6 spring 215mm disc might work, but compared to the price of the conversion kit its cost is trivial, so I personally wouldn't bother reusing the old disc.

I'd use a stock 228mm bus disc...in fact that is what I'm using. BTW I also made my own conversion ring.

Great, thanks guys. I was wondering why I had read I can use the /4 215mm clutch - wasn't making sense.

It's not much more money just to get a brand new flywheel that comes with the ring gear - that way don't have to resurface the old one.
