PN 914-347-805-11 Date code stamped 10/71

This is a VGC original wheel. The leather is complete but faded (could be re-dyed or left for patina look)

The stitching is complete and has a small fray in one area.

There are no cuts or tears in the leather

Wheel was mounted on an early 4 cylinder car when I got it.

It's a mid year or later wheel with a late plastic hub. '72 or later.

The wheel chart I have shows:

914.347.803.10-hard rubber 914-6 70-71
914.347.804.10-hard rubber 914-4 70-71
914.347.804.11-hard rubber 72 up
914.347.805.10-leather 914-4 70-71
914.347.805.11-leather 914-6 and 914-4 72 up
914.347.806.10-leather 914-6 70-71 & RS
914.347.809.00-fake leather 72 up

Based upon that chart, would it be a '72 914-6 that it was installed on?

Can anyone help clarify?

Edit and correction:
I believe it would be 72 and later. The center is dished.
I knew 73 and later wheels have a dished area in the center but never saw one that early with the dish.

The '72 914-6 used a steering column from a '72 914-4 so while it could have been from a 6, it probably wasn't. There were very few '72 6's made and those wheels are pretty common. I have 5 or 6. So they will definitely fit a '72 six but not properly fit '71 or earlier. Still, it's a nice wheel and will bolt right on to a mid year or later car. An early car will need a different plastic hub to make it "fit" and might still wiggle compared the early wheels.

I have parted many a mid and early 914, 4 cylinder and never a 6 over the years

I'm sure it came from a 4 cyl years ago.

And, yes, the cars were put in the registry in 2004 beer.gif
