Anyone interested in sponsoring some soldiers in Iraq? I've got an address for some soldiers in a Blackhawk unit in Iraq.

A small care package or even a card would be welcome.

-Rusty
Jenny
are they still in need of baby wipes?

Jen
Lawrence
I traded emails with my friend Travis today. Baby wipes they got. I should have bought babywipe stock in January. ;-)

Cards or notes of support would be greatly appreciated. They won't get delivered to "any servicemember" like last Gulf War. But if you send them directly to a particular soldier, they'll go through.

If you'd like to do a small care package, stuff like instant drink mixes, ramen noodles, shells with cheese, snack foods and beef jerky. Most soldiers are still eating MREs on a regular basis.

Count me in.
Send me a name and address.

I was talking with a girl at work last night.
Her husband in over there.
She said he asked her to send him some 'magazines'.

My younger brother is in Iraq now. He's a Major in the Marine Corp. I'm sponsoring him and several of his buddies, through my parents. Anything you guys can send them is greatly appreciated. Things that we take for granted are worth their weight in gold. Sunscreen, sunglasses, motorcycle goggles, lip baum.
Lawrence
About "magazines"... Contraband can mean destruction of the entire package. It sucks, but that's what I'm hearing. Not all packages are searched, but some are.

Things that aren't allowed: alcohol, pork products, or any type of pornography.

Thank you to any who can help. I'm proud to know you guys.

Travis's address is:

<address deleted as it's no longer valid>

I'm in. I'll have to drop a bunch of other crap, but I'm all over that. Can you UPS to Iraq? I've discovered that my wife's work can ship stuff out for me and it's DIRT CHEAP compared to what I've been paying.
Lawrence
Thanks, Mike. It will certainly be appreciated.

I think that UPS has suspended deliveries to Iraq, though. You're stuck with U.S. Mail. Sorry. confused24.gif

That's OK. We'll make it happen.
Alexlitov
UPS can't sent that to the adress above!!! Only USPS can.
Lawrence
Bump... thanks for looking.

Lawrence
Thanks, Mike. I know it'll be appreciated.

I'm in - I'm retired military and spent a year in a six man tent - packages from home always seemed to make you forget about the shit hole you were at.

Let me know how i can help.

Is there a list of soldier to sponser? I would hate for 1 guy to recieve 50 packages and leave the rest of his men with nothing.
Rusty
I've emailed my old platoon. They're back in Iraq.

I should be able to get a list of names and an address. Give me a couple of days... as they don't always check email regularly.

I can PM the info to anyone interested... starting with the most junior Soldiers first.

P.S. One of our own members is in Iraq. Ian... do you need a care package? smile.gif

Count me in! Give me names & IPO's.

Every man & woman there is a hero!

Anything to show a little gratitude.

Been there (well, not THERE, but been there).

I'm in! Send me the info.

Freedom is not free, support those that are doing the most to insure we stay free!
Rusty
I have a list of young Soldiers and addresses. They're at the 4-5 month mark in their tour... which probably is the hardest part, morale-wise.

PM me if you'd like to send a card or a package!

I am in again! We got the most thoughtful letters last time...
army dude
Hey ya'll!! I know the things over here that we enjoy the most are SOFT toilet paper, CURRENT magazines, dvds -new,old,used, multi vitamins, cards and letters from school kids, envelopes and stationary, newspapers, Gold Bond Powder, good quality disposable razors, holiday decorations in a timely manor so we can use them, powdered vanilla creamer for coffee, Different coffee from different places, Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts- that kind of silly stuff. Chapstick is ok, baby wipes are ok but at times over done in donating.
Anything we get we are more than happy for people thinking about us and what we are going through. I am not trying to talk politics but I believe we all need to supporteach other the best we can. I have received some stuff from the 914club when we were the only site and have something in the mail as we speak from another member. People I have never met did some incredible things for me and I can't thank them enough!! And we thank everybody for thinking of us!! We think of everyone back there!!
So, send away to soldiers, sailors and marines and air force people and remember that just because you don't here from them it doesn't mean that what you sent wasn't able to bring a smile to somebody when they needed it most!! Its the small things we cherish here most!!

Thank you all!!

I will be leaving in 60 days but if you send something it will stay here for the next guys if I can't use it. Do not send anything after March 1. Thanks!!

Can someone give me a idea of how big of a box is allowed? I do not want to make it too large or too small to mess up shipping smile.gif
Rusty
Hi Bob!

There are no restrictions outside of normal U.S. Mail restrictions. Boxes can be subjected to a pretty hard trip, so some padding (newspaper, bubblewrap, etc) and strong packing tape always help.

thanks!

We just recieved a very heartfelt letter from a sponsered soldier. It is awesome to know how appreciated the little things we have at arms reach can mean soo much. I think with a non-club with hearts as big as they are here we could do so much with so little effort. Could we keep this rolling for these guys that don't ask for much? TIA Bob flag.gif
Pat Garvey
Rusty,

26 letters went out today. I know it's not enough, but it's a start!

My thanks to every hero who ever fought for my safety & that of my friends!

Wish I could do more!

From what Ian said we could use roles of soft toilet paper to pad the boxes.

Thats how we padded our's. I was pretty sure they had no need for bubble wrap or packing peanuts. smile.gif

Guys... thank you! smile.gif

I've hesistated to bump this, because I didn't want to be pushy.

But, I do have some names left from my old platoon, if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

Hey Lawrence, nice avatar!! Where did ya find that so quickly??

Faux916, bubble wrap just gathers board officers trying to waste time...ya know, entertainment...like a fire is to a Ranger, the "OOOHHHHHH" factor. And the packing peanuts are glued to the underside of the humvee to help absorb the explosions!! No, really!! Elmers glue and peanuts, yeah thats it.

Ian in Iraq...Again

But really, thanks for everybody doing something!!
Rusty
I swiped it off eBay, where they're selling those Lite-Brites.

The whole Boston thing just makes me laugh. Apparently they can't take a joke up there. tongue.gif
