Forgive me if this is a stupid question. I'm looking at a car listed on Craigslist. I was wondering if anyone can give me some guidance based on the ad. I am looking for a project that needs work. This car looks, to me, like it needs quite a bit. That being said I am not a welder.
Can anyone look at these pictures and give me an idea of just how far gone this car is. I'm going to try to go see it in person. Not sure if it's worth the hour and a half trip.
Any info would be appreciated.

If you are not a welder, that is not the car for you... Lots of rust lurking hidden on that one.

Going to be hard to find any 914 that does not need welding especially in your area. That one is not bad really. They have cut the engine tin for AC and a patch job can be seen on the inner wheel well. There are lots of other places to look for rust. Trunks, under the rockers tops of fenders.

I never found a good one around here - but that one may be worth the drive to check out. Bring a sharp poking instrument and a "there must be rust here somewhere" mentality.

Couple guys in the area who would come with you to give their advice.

That car doesn't look too bad for a PA car but there's a lot more places to look for rust than what are shown in the pics.

One thing though, you mention that you are looking for a project but are not a welder. Usually a 914 project requires welding and sometimes a lot of it. Do you plan on getting a welder or have a buddy who welds?

If you don't have a good welding contact, you may want to look for a more solid car.

Lots of rust in places not shown--lots of mold inside--lots of paint on the outside. I would think that after removing the many layers of paint you'll be in for lots of unpleasant surprises. Just my $.02 from a guy with experience.

Why would you run a hose through a sharp rusted hole like that? Is that the fuel return line????

I live near gap pa. I would meet you at the car if you need some help but looking at the pictures, I'm sure all of the above comments are true. This car will cost a lot more than a $10-12k car that is done.

And where is the battery tray and support?
You might want to look at the car to begin to know what to look for but that one will take a lot of work $$ and parts.
