Is the muffler really unsupported? If so, you might want to think about a hanger of some kind for it...

I think anyone with the knowledge and skill to build and install an engine like that will pretty much be able to take care of an oil leak or muffler hanger. I'm sure they appreciate the help and advice though. poke.gif laugh.gif

I am guessing that the muffler has to hang like that because of the axle when the car is in the air.

That is a thing of beauty pray.gif

If that is a foam type air filter keep your eye on it.
The foam does not like big heat, starts to get brittle and deposit small chunks into the intake stream, btdt and I have the tee shirt !

Yes. It's just hanging there for now. I was not going to leave it that way and am planning to hang it before I drive it.

You know I was looking at the dates. I cannot believe it's almost been a year!! To be honest... once I got the engine installed I was pretty scared or apprehensive in turning that key for the first time. blink.gif I was afraid something would break!! Just glad Mark did the cam break in at the shop so I knew that it ran at least. For those that don't know. He did the cam break in with carbs before sending the motor to me.

that's a beautiful build!

maybe McMark can comment, but how does a big /4 like this compare
to a /6 with similar size/displacement? is there a cost advantage one vs the other? i am always curious why we do what we do,

one other question, how much boost are you running?

-love the sound of the tangerine system!

Thanks! If I could go back in time... knowing what I know now... I would have gone a different route. Something a bit more cost friendly!!

As for boost... I don't know at this point as I have not driven it yet. I have shift rod issues that I'm working out at the moment.

How did you know that was a tangerine system? evilgrin.gif

I saw the vid real quick...must have missed the intercooler.

Nice...makes some wonder if it's worth it to install a 2.2 /2.4 -6 in one of these.
Did some one say 300 hp?
Dr Evil
Very cool. Any projections on reliability or possible issues to look for in such a large displacement? I am assuming from your post that it was not cost friendly, but it is wicked cool and well done.

Turbos aside, the fours tend to have torque come on lower down, whereas the sixes make horsepower. Which is to say, fours can put you back in your seat, but taper off as RPM increases while sixes are a slower build and when they start to breathe, they really move. But all that is a massive generality.

Sorry. I don't have any pics of that. Jake did all the case clearancing work and decking.

I then had the case thermal coated. That nearly ended this project and cannot thank Mark enough for saving the build!!!! That's another story.....

more boost,more power,more heat.
An eventual compromise limiting boost and inlet
air temps must be made before detonation sets in.

This is beautiful, polished, sounds very nice, malevolent even.
I recall a 914 turbo'ed with a 924 setup and raced.
Excellence did a few pages on the car, pointed me to my purchase.
Painted a 911 custom blue I liked.
Good read for the approach used.

So beautiful nein14.
I see you have added an intercooler and fan to your system.
I enjoyed reading of your restoration and repair of the usual long rust and subsequent turbo install.
The writers's description of the engine whistling and huffing as you exited the corners stimulated my imagination.
The adoption of the 924's turbo and integral wastegate is a simple and obvious solution.
The added charge cooler is now a must-have in order to reduce cylinder head temps.
Wonderful work and thankyou.
nein14
Your welcome your install look great!

I made a lot of upgrades since the article in Excellence 930 bilstein struts S calipers vented rears with 914/6 calipers and the Turbo was
Changed to a K26 NOS from A Audi 5000 S
