Hello everyone. I recently inherited a 1971 Orange 914 VIN 4712910409 from my dad. Been in his barn for the last 7 years. Hasn't been started and as you can imagine, it's damn filthy. I have all the keys, all the locks work however, I can't get the rear trunk latch to open. The key turns in it just fine but it won't push in to open the rear lid. I need some help. Any suggestions on getting it open without damaging anything?

Hold down on the lid while pressing in/turning key?

If pushing down doesn't help:

- Get a helper with a flashlight
- Open the engine lid and push the two round plastic cups into the trunk
- Have your helper shine the flashlight through one of the holes and onto the lock mechanism
- Put a 10mm swivel socket on a ratchet extension
- Stack together several feet of extensions for your ratchet
- Unbolt the two top bolts on the lock

This works surprisingly well and is fairly quick ...

Are you saying the lock turns 90 degrees but the button won't push? If so, spray a little lubricant around the button then smack it"gently" with the butt of your hand.

Yup. That's what Im saying. I've tried the pushing down and turning and the bumping of the hand. no luck. Looks like I might have to try the extension trick. Im letting it soak a little bit with some spray. Hopefully it will come loose here pretty soon.
