Learn me on how we identify blocks?
I found a huge parts cache from a local guy and these are part of the stash.

Simple quick look...

If the serial number is located as you see above, it's a 2.0 liter case.

If it's located on the top edge of the case near the mating surface, roughly middle of the top....it's a 1.8 or 1.7 case.

All of that is not really important unless you are seeking a number matching case.
All cases can be used to build any size motor....everything else fits.

A lot of the VW applications put the serial number in that spot as well. So it's not a guarantee of a 2.0 case.

And, I might add, early 1.7 Bus engines had the serial number on the fan shroud, not on the case itself ...............

Note that Porsche's have 'Cases' not blocks... wink.gif
