hi,

when I removed the fuel pump it was as depicted in the below image.

my question is ....... is the one rubber piece that is still attached to

the pump's mounting bracket correct?

seems like it would have the bolt all the way through as the other that is

lying next to the pump.

I do not remember when I removed it and I do not have any images that

show the mounting bolts.

how far off the firewall does the pump need to be?

also.............what should/could I do to the pump before I re-install it,

besides clean it.

thanks

Looks like the bolt pulled out of the rubber. I don't remember of the bolt went all the way through or if they were just encased in the rubber.

Get new mounts!

If you have a early year, consider doing the relocation of the pump to the front of the car. Prevents a lot of vapor locking.

If the pump was working well replace the lines and put it back in.

I believe the rubber mount is two separate threaded pieces of metal, with the rubber in between them. Much like the 73+ motor mounts are. They can split exactly as you show in your pic, where one piece of metal breaks free of the rubber.

Get a couple of new mounts.

thanks for the replies,

I think that it is as DD says. two separate bolts attached to each end of

the rubber.

I think I will just drill out the middle and new bolts, washers, etc...

only one place so far that I found the rubber mounts and they wanted 22 dollars ea.

the car is a 73 1.7

don't know if the pump works yet.

would you be able to tell me how to "bench test" ?

or a link please.

tks

First simple text of the pump with a battery and leads to see if it runs. It it runs, I would add some fuel line and a pressure gauge to be sure it builds pressure without leaking.

You can get these vibration mounts at McMaster Carr in a variety of sizes. There's nothing special about them except to keep the noise of a running fuel pump minimized.

jacksun
thanks for the lead for the mounts. lot cheaper at McMaster.

I purchased the ss lines from tangerine and have the tunnel lines in place.

went in pretty easy and by myself.

you do need to remove the rear passenger tire.

i will try to test the pump tomorrow.

should be interesting...

thanks again
