hi,

I am starting to clean up and take care of the floor under the pedal assembly.

my questions.

#1 was placed on top of 1a (which is like one of those circles that are everywhere, that I made darker in editing) and caulked in with 1b..........is this normal?

2a is a tar like substance that was used in the area of 2... it kinda like leveled

the area .. is this normal?

is stock simply metal with paint and seam sealer in the joints around the perimeter?

if this stuff was not original, then I should be able to just continue to clean and

then treat for rust and paint with zero rust? hope, hope.

thanks

There a lot of people here with a lot more experience than me, but I've now done two floors, and that looks pretty normal based on both of my experiences (normal, that is, except I found rust in both cases). The stock floor has tarboard and the seams are treated with a seam sealer (which can be a bear to remove). Yes, continue to clean, treat for rust, paint, and then put down something as a vibration dampener / sound deadener to replace the tarboard. Lots of discussions and advice on here if you search for "dynamat" or similar products.

About the circles...yeah, I'm not sure what to tell you about those actually. Everyone's got 'em. They served some purpose during assembly, I think, but really do anything now.

That should read "don't do anything now."

tks for the reply,

I guess I will have to find something that after prep and painting that I can

apply that will level it's self out.. I wonder if that black tar like stuff you

can use to repair roofs and gutters will level out and harden.

more searching and reading to do.

tks again

Ugh, don't use something like that (I wouldn't anyway). Yeah, do the research on what works well (and is easy to work with). I recommend reading THIS THREAD.

tks,

read the thread. more reading to do before I decide.

I did clean up the area and wire wheel it with the grinder. nice and clean

no more surface rust. used picklex rust converter, and have brushed on

one coat so far of Zero Rust.

not sure if I want to remove all the tar.

more to do.

a heat gun and a painters 5 in 1 tool makes short work of the tar. there is more surface rust creeping out from the tar cracks and edges.
