Hello all,

I know this topic has been beaten to death but one more time couldn't hurt right? I am nearing the end of my part collecting odyssey for 5 lug conversion and am now wondering on tire fitment on my narrow car. I have fuchs 16x6 and 7 and originally purchased falken azenis 205/40/16 size tires to go with the setup. Now that I am older and wiser I am wondering the following.....

- Will my 205/40s fit under the narrow rears with a redrilled hub rotor 914-4 setup on the 7" rim?
- Will 205/ 40s fit on a 7" rim at all?
- If they will do I want to run this low a profile tire (82mm)?
- Can I squeeze more tire under the rears 215/50 225/50 (without manipulating fenders)
- I am told I will have to work the fenders to fit 7s at all. If this is the case should I just get the 215s or 225 I want and work the fenders accordingly?
- From a car value standpoint I have to assume on 75' 2.0, the added value of a 911 suspension set up should offset any negative effects of the rolled/pulled fenders. Is this correct thinking? I know these cars are becoming collectable but I'm not really hurting myself here right?
- I am thinking of Dunlop direzza 215/50/R16 as the compromise can I do this.

I know 16x6s all around is the pain free path.......but that extra inch in the back is just so cool....AND I have em already.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

Perhaps someone will post and prove me wrong but....I have yet to see 7" Fuchs on the rear without some sort of fender work. I had 7" boxster wheels that fit. I know cookie cutters can be wedged in there but I have never seen Fuchs with totally stock fenders. You are right, however. That extra width does look cool! biggrin.gif

FWIW, I've got 6 & 7x16 Fuchs from an '86 Carrera on my 914-6. The rear fenders don't appear to have been pulled, rolled, or what have you. Rubbed to the point of heating up the paint, thanks to 225s a PO insisted on running... dry.gif

So I believe you've got different stub axles, wheel hubs and brakes, and weight. But I don't know if those really change the dimensions in the wheel wells more than the car-to-car variations seen in the wild.

I've had Yoko AVS ES100s in 205/55WR16 at all four corners since I bought it. I hear some rubbing in the front at full steering lock on fire roads and such, that's it. I can fit a finger between the rear tires and the fenders at the top.

Hope that helps!

Like everyone said there are a lot of different variables, you cannot know until
you do it. Borrowing somebody's tire/rim combo would be recommended.
Calculate the diameter of the low-profile tire you're considering and compare
it to the 165/80/15 stock diameter. This will allow you to see how much higher
revs you will have driving down the highway and how far off your speedo will
be. That and the ride height may or may not be important for your idea of the
best ride.

Boxster 16"x7 rims work well because the offset is 40mm. The older Fuchs
and cookie cutters are both 23mm, so they will stick out that much farther,
hence all the fender rolling.

All of the above+ remember that our cars are not exactly the same on both sides, there can be a difference in clearance of 1/4" between the driver's side and passenger side. So, be sure to check both sides when trying to get the right wheels.

If you want 7X16, there is another option, get the 944 7X16. It has a different offset and "looks" like a 6" but fits "inside" because of the different offset better for the slightly wider wheel and tire.

I've tried 16x7's on the back of my 914 with 205/55/16 and one side rubbed but the other side cleared the fender, go figure....

thanks for the help guys. If I go 205/50/16 will they definitely fit on the 16*7 rim?

I don't believe there are any Fuchs 7x16 with offset other than 23mm. Source?
Of course there are phone dials with other offsets, though.

Before my flares, I had both Fuchs and Cookies in 7" in the rear of mine. I had to pull the right rear. I have heard of others having to pull the left rear. 6" Fuchs with 205 tires fit fine as I recall...
JFJ914
205/55x16 on Fuchs 16's fit fine.

I am running Kuhmo 205/50/16 on 16x6 and 16x7 with Fuchs on a '73 with no problems.. adjustable coils on the rear and 911 front end.

has anyone run a 205/40? am I going to regret it?
Wdunster
I am currently running stock boxter winter wheels on my narrow body. Rear tires are 225/50/16 and fit with out modification.

Yes as MoveQik mentions the boxter wheels have the most favorable offset for a 7 inch rim on a narrow car. Any ideas on the 205/40s? will I regret going so low profile?
