I am looking for recommendations for a new alternator for my 914/4. I fried my 55amp alternator. I have a bunch of electronic gauges, msd ignition, hid lights, fog lights... Would a 75amp alternator be sufficient or do I need more? If I need more, what options are there?

The first thing you should do is up-size the charge wire and grounds. Most likely you are asking your alternator to charge through 40 year old, undersized wiring. smile.gif

take it to an alternator repair shop and have them build you a 90 amp unit.

With a few modifications you can run on of these 175 Amp alt's. rolleyes.gif

agree.gif I went to a 90 amp alternator years ago; but the wiring and grounds turned out to be the problem.

The 75 amp units don't last as long.. I went through 5 of them in 160K miles with my 912E (factory 75 amp).
