I recently replaced the triangular-shaped headlamp retaining bracket pivot on the driver's side of the car. Last night while driving home the bracket failed, with the flailing headlamp trashing my new paint. Upon inspection it appears that the bracket is made of cheap pot metal. Are these replacement brackets just cheap copies of the originals or were they always of such cheap construction?

The originals are good, solid steel.

Let me guess... you bought one from Auto Atlanta?

Originals were made of both zinc and steel. Recently sorted through the pile I had.

Zinc is weaker. Not sure if it was an early and late thing. I recently posts several sets for sale of steel ones.
