Just wanted to share what I've spent in case anybody else is considering doing a conversion. There are 2 catches for my low cost...engine and no external oil cooler yet. I'm testing to see if I need a 2nd oil cooler but even if I do - another $1000 still keeps me below $10,000.

Great deal on the engine and carbs!!!
It's possible, I'm keeping tabs on mine, not a ton of money if you get deals and don't get carried away.

when i do the math, i get 9,586. Did you use stock 6 gauges from the donor? Probably another couple hundred for shipping charges.

Ah yes you are correct. My number factors in selling of the /4 engine along with parts associated with it.
Yes I got oil and tach gauges from the donor car. I bought a stand-alone fuel gauge and moved it to the center console. And I drove the car from Austin to Houston. It was a major project car that barely managed to be driveable! I had a flat-bed friend on speed dial.

How much was the car?

Some of those numbers would be hard to duplicate....a 911 SC for $6300, Weber carbs for $300, etc.
As BK said, how much for the car? Does the car need rust repair, paint, etc.?

The 914 was $4000 and in excellent condition (couple minor rust spots and will now [not when I bought it] need to be painted or wrapped) but I don't really count that to my /6 costs. I didn't purchase it for a /6 conversion and could have easily kept driving it as a /4.

Carbs were stuffed in a box full of 911 engine parts at an estate sale - they had no idea what everything was (and neither do I - most of it seems like rockers/intermediate shafts and other stuff). Missing lots of parts on the carbs though so $300 plus the $1200 for rebuild and parts replacement/jetting.
I still have the random 911 parts that I can probably sell and recoup more money! Or keep for an eventual engine rebuild.

That sounds very close to mine, but I got my engine 14 years ago for $5000 and it included all gauges, injection, harness and lambada.
No need for carbs but I also bought the whole 5-lug set up including rims, tires and new front struts so I am closer to $11K.
