need a yoke for engine stand ????
mapguy
I use one of these with a larin "C" type stand I got on sale cheap at pep boys.

It interferes with the tin when you try to mount it on the side you want to with a fully dressed engine. I use it on the "wrong" side to get the engine down to short block, then flip it to finish the job. Kind of a pain. Works great with type 1s, though! There are also adapter rings that might work better, but I have no experience.

One other note on the yoke. It is very sturdy and stable, but relies on friction to stay at the angle you want. You would have to drill holes in the mounting tube to use the angle locking pin or rotation handle that come with some chinese stands (mine). That might affect the strength somewhat, but it's so stout I can't see it being a problem.

It also comes with a spacer for use with the long stud (chuckle).

I just went through this, so happy to help you make a decision. They don't come up used very often, but check craigslist in your area, the samba, ebay, and other porsche/vw forums. You might get lucky.

I got a 2 arm and a 4 arm. They seem well made and fit without any interference.

Edit: I think it is the same as the ebay ad one that mapguy posted above.

Another point to ponder is the engine stand receiver tube inside diameter and the yoke outside diameter.......I remember chasing around for an adapter so I could use my yoke with my autozone engine stand........most ebay yokes are for 2 3/8 " ID stands.

This one will serve you very well.

It is a 2 3/8 " OD tube...ask the guy if you can get the adapter to use it with standard engine stands which have a 2 5/8 " ID. The only other VW/Porsche yoke I have ever seen for a 2 5/8 " ID engine is sold by Summit but it is a cheese ball 2 arm primarily for type 1 VW. Shown here:

Just as an update to this thread I asked about the adapter to make things fit better here is the reply I received back:
"Ours fits all the harbor freight stands and most sold by the discount auto parts outlets. All these are Chinese, made with 60 mm receiver pipe, which is just a little larger than 2 -3/8". Hope this helps."

Now the part I don't understand is all of it.......because if the engine stand on all the above mentioned has a 60 MM tube which is 2.3622" ID How do you stick the yoke which is 2 3/8 or 2.375" OD in it ?????

FWIW, I am using the ebay 3-arm yoke in a Larin stand. The fitment is not perfect. It's a little loose for my taste. However, I have a teener engine on there now and it is very stable, even with just the friction fit.

If I run into issues with fitment later on, the plan is to layer a couple aluminum can outsides in there and call it good. Not a perfect setup, but it's getting the job done.

I got my yoke with the bench adapter, and the plan is to weld that on my custom build/run stand in place of the existing empi POS that's on there now. That will guarantee a better fit. I don't have a welder at my disposal (yet), and the Larin stand is getting it done.

Here's the Larin stand I'm using. I got this on sale with a ship to store deal for half the listed price.

It will work. Don't turn it past 90 degrees and have a bench that will take that much over hung weight with out flipping.
