I am trying to figure out why my driving lights don't work. Can anyone tell me where the driving lights relay is located? In the front trunk or under the dash?

Thanks for your help
Ron

I think it is on the back side of the fuse panel.

Under the dash, pull the fuse box.

When you pull the fuse box if you have an earlier car, you will notice they the screw on the left is shorter than the right. Make sure you put them back the same way or you may be in for a surprise

Working on my '73 fogs too. Fog light relay is on fuse panel. 2 screws to drop the panel; fog light relay is one of the two middle relays. Look at wiring diagram for color coded wires to relay the pick the relay w/ the same colors. You can jumper 86 and 30 to bypass relay; lights will go on if you jumper the relay; easy way to test bulbs.

Unless you moved the power from the low beams to the high beams they should come on with the low beam lights since they were supposed to be Fog Lights. My '73 and '75 had the relay under the dash.

....also make sure light housings are grounded well idea.gif

oops. Double post.

They only work when the headlights are on, and judging by a previous response, only when on low beam.

In case you didn't know. biggrin.gif

JWest fog light upgrade. I have one on my car. Love it. I can turn on my running lights and fog lights for early morning por dusk driving without the pop ups. Plus, I can flash other cars with the fog light switch on the fly. Looks like the price went up, but still a nice upgrade. No tools needed. Can switch back to stock if desired.

Yiles... you spent $40 on some electrical parts that cost about $3.85? Ouch...
I'll draw up a quick wiring and parts diagram for this, and post it.

I WAS EXCITED WHEN I PUT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ON AND PULLED THE FOG LIGHT SWITCH WHICH LIT UP!! BUT THE TWO FOG LIGHTS DID NOT LIGHT UP. I MADE SURE THE HIGH BEAMS WERE NOT ON.

I RAN A HOT WIRE FROM THE BATTERY DIRECTLY TO THE HOT WIRE IN THE FRONT TRUNK THAT FEEDS THE TWO FOG LIGHTS AND THEY LIT UP. COULD IT BE A FAULTY FOG LIGHT RELAY ON THE FUSE PANEL? I ASSUME IT IS A VERY COMPLICATED RELAY AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE. HOW CAN I TEST IT AND WHERE CAN I BUY ONE?
THANKS,
RON

Check the fuses. You may have a blown fuse.

I started a post last night. Same deal.

I found something tonight and remembered how to test the relays. Not my issue tho. All relays work. I have not tried the swap thing since I have a melted connection.
Ron Domkowski
I CHECKED ALL THE FUSES AND THEY ARE GOOD. I AM GOING TO REMOVE THE RELAY AND SEE IF I CAN TEST IT. HOPE THERE IS A SCEMATIC ON THE OUTSIDE CASE. IF NOT I WILL SWAP IT WITH THE HORN RELAY.
THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION.

OK AWESOME
ripper911
Also... They only work correctly if your caps lock isn't engaged.
malcolm2
ended up cleaning all the contacts between the relay and the relay socket. Slightly spreading the pins and slightly closing the sleeve or ring that the pin goes into. Cleaned the melted goo too and they work like new.

Hope you got yours going. driving-girl.gif

There was another post a few days ago on this same topic I used it to get my fog light working it turned out to be the relay. It's really easy to test the relay and you can find one at Pelican parts. Here's the diagram using the socket it will translate over to the relay it is numbered the same.

Here's what the relays look like on the back of the fuse panel. I think on my 72 it was the relay on the far left.
