Not sure of current value due to steeply rising air cooled values all around with nice 914's riding on the coatails of the early 911 crowd.. My guess is 15 - 20K with a nice sorted out 2.0 selling for 23K here locally recently.
1.7's are actually stronger than the 1.8's and can approach 2.0's with some tweeking.

The engine has some tweeks,
