One of the things on my 'list' is to glass-bead the calipers and rebuild the fronts, and rears. (I've got a full extra set I can play with.) The car will be Saturn Yellow again, but I'm not thinking Yellow calipers are all that nice looking. I'm thinking about Red to look like the 'Big Red' ones they have for the Boxter and 996.
Does anyone have a pic of their car with Red calipers?

I don't have any pics, but I have seen them painted. I'm thinking of painting mine red when I finish cleaning them

Here ya go. I just cleaned, wire brushed and used high gloss enamel. Not show quality, this is a fun and track car.

Wow...That's beautiful. But on a yellow car, do you think it'd be a little overkill?

And here is the best picture I could find of my yellow car and you can see the calipers were both yellow.

Thanks...That looks great.

Mike, I am shocked by your post. The term ‘rice’ is politically incorrect, and could cause this thread to be deleted by admin. Anything implying national origin, religious or political leanings is expressly forbidden on this board.
Further, you insulted three sensitive members who painted their stock calipers, and believe a formal apology is in order. I like painted calipers, and to all those who agree, I will be marketing the attached sticky to really dress up the calipers.
PS This is all a joke!
PPS Thanks for supoorting WCC 2005!

How can I make this so political that the thought polezi step in?
Yellow is out...to offensive to WWII vetrans
Red is out.....I lived thru the cold war
Black is definitely out.
White is definitely out and banned.
Blue is out...to depressing
Green is out...would make everyone envious
I think silver might be safe, but you may offend the native americans.
Fushia should be safe, unless you go through Corona.

Howard, I agree with your reaction to Mike's outrageous post. His castigation was indeed deserved!
I am concerned with perhaps a greater issue concerning the painting of calipers. That is the prejudice shown toward colors other than yellow and red. Why is it that only these colors are given the opportunity to grace calipers. Are we so narrow minded that we truly believe only red and yellow are good enough?

I think red and yellow are used to show the calipers off. It seems like a waste unless you have upgraded them to something larger. That is why I painted my Volvo calipers. Personally, I dont really care what others think about my calipers as long as the damn things stop my car. I just think it looks cool.

scott, while we are talking about the aesthetically pleasing elements of cars (914's)
why do you put a 916 rear on without doing the front?
skline
Jan 29 2005, 11:00 AM
Well, thats a good question, to be honest, I never liked the 916 front nose. Had one on my first car and just never really liked it without flares to go with it. Some people like them some dont, I am one of those that dont. But the 916 rear bumper, I really like that. Covers the lower bottom end and has clean lines. I prefer it over the chrome rear bumper and valance.

I always paint mine black..sleeper style, even if they are 911 calipers.
If you wanted to go for originality you could be among the first to leave them bare metal and let them rust like the rest of these cars.

Now wait, you pinky painters have not considered the thermal ineffeciency of that layer of paint that will reduce the thermal conductivity of the material over which it is applied and thereby lead to "faded brakes".
I am now going to inform the gubermint agency responsible for enacting laws against transgressions such as this. Endagering the Pubic Safety is a serious matter and not to be taken lightly

It's your car man, paint them purple if you like that!
Opinions are like..... well you know.
So my opinion is that red and yellow say "hey look, I've actually got brakes on this car"
Or if you've got lobster claws or some other big brakes, then it says "hey look, I've actually spent a bunch of money on brakes"
Geez if you really want people to notice your brakes why not chrome plate them? Then your statement would be "hey look, I've actually got brakes on this car with bling"
My opinion (see sentance #2) is that brakes are suppose to be a functional part of the car, not a styling exercise. So my preference is OEM appearing gold or silver cad plating (see Eric Shea's rear caliper thread), or black. This is just my opinion though, and I'm probably wrong (just ask my wife

)!

Most functional would be a thin coat of flat black, best for heat dissapation. My guess would be for regular street use, any of the glossy colored paints are great looking, red seems to be the most common regardless of car color, some times the red looks good, other times with other car colors it aint the best choice. For a yellow car, yellow would be good, red not too bad either. My opion would be a gloss black on a yellow car would be best looking.
Let us know what you decide!
