I have gone to a brushed aluminum look on my '74-2.0 on the interior, nothing big but the switch area on the dash, the Momo steering wheel spokes, and the window cranks are all now brushed aluminum.
now I want to dress up the area behind the front trunk wall by covering the clutter (except the fuel tank area) with some aluminum panels.
has anyone out there done this. LOOKING FOR IDEAS.

The trunk lid

I agree, that is a clean look.- something to consider.
I also have an issue with the front trunk lid sagging when open.
the springs are in the tightest position but it still sags.
could those spring have become weak?
anyone else have this problem?

Actually trying to find a nice looking plated strap assembly. All the straps I have seen are bent up. I'll have to fabricate something soon. i just keep the car upright in the meantime.

I took heavy duty cardboard boxes and made base templates. I used the natural fold in the box for the corner so they have some sturdiness Double walled). I was going to make more permanent bases with those templates (using light sheet metal) but it worked out so well I kept it.

I cut the box up, then stuck on PepBoy auto carpet (like perlon) with spray adhesive. They are in place pretty tight and held by two sided tape and velcro. Easily removed to get underneath.

Very nice! My car had a thick plywood covered with carpet. This was a big improvement. What you have if far above that!

I would try new springs. It looks like you are using the highest mounting point already. When you change the springs, remove the hings bolt. This often corrodes and binds. Give it a good grease job before replacing

I also like the carpet cover over the fuel tank seen on some pre series cars, it hides a lot of stuff from ones eyes... anyone tried making one?

Not mine, but a fancy front trunk. Easiest thing to do it just carped the wheel wells in matching carpet. Dresses it up a LOT

I don't get it. I actually like the clean paint look on the wheel wells/etc. Looks too boxy to me or like a 1980s stereo install.

If I had "clean" wheel wells i would show them off. But they are kinda banged up....

I'd be a little worried about static electricity with all that carpet around a fuel tank.

That is a nice clean look and a lot easier than trying to fit aluminum panels around that tank.

A 1/2" foam backing pad will give it that smooth shape and magnets sewn in the far corners will hold it in nicely. An anti static spray or material, or a grounding wire will solve the worry.
